I have a slide show I burned with a DVD format that had video clips on it. I would like to make a new show using some of those clips, and I am dismayed to find that I did not save the raw clips on a cd before I deleted them from my computer. I am usually very good about doing that, and somehow failed to do it this time.

Do you know of any good software program I could download that could let me open these video files that are now video_TS.BUP files? Is there a way that my Windows media player could do this? It will play it, but I would not know how or if I could rip those clips from it using the media player.

If not, since I deleted them less than 6 months ago, is there any good software I could download that could search and possibly restore those deleted video files on my computer? There might be a chance that they have not been overwritten yet.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Let me explain what is inside VIDEO_TS:

VIDEO_TS.IFO, VTS_01_0.IFO - are configuration files with information about how to play exactly all video and audio content of DVD (including menus, subtitles, aspect ratio, languages etc.).

VIDEO_TS.BUP, VTS_01_0.BUP - backup of configuration files.

VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.V0B, ... - files with video and audio data.

DVD PIXPLAY DOES NOT READ VOB FILES-----SO YOU CAN NOT USE VOB FILES IN PIXPLAY.

You can go to the following link to learn more about changing a VOB file:

I tried copying them to My Documents, and renaming but that did not seem to work.

I also tried importing those clips with Video Pad video editor, and it did seem to work, that is I was able to view and edit the clips to place I wanted to save of it. I then converted and saved it as an .avi file in my pictures.

However, when I try putting it in the Pixplay, it does appear as an image, but when I tried to preview it, I got "either not a supported file type or no file handler available for this format".

You would think there would be a converter for video files like you can convert music files with a program like Wavepad.

I know this really isn't a problem of Pixplay's, but I thought I would ask the question in here because you would know what those clips are burned as when I choose the DVD option of burning a slide show.

So if there is a converter you might think would work, I would appreciate knowing which one.
Thanks!

Hi

Assuming your did not use DVD + PC format (in which case the folder would have a PXP_Files folder) then there is not a practical way to extract the clips in a burnt DVD and reuse them (as the quality would be awful).

Your best option would be to rip the DVD content to an MPEG file and then add them to a PixPlay project. I don't know of what product would be suitable for that task, so Google is your best bet.

Thank you Nigel. I have tried several programs so far, but while I can get them to appear in Pixplay as a thumbnail like it normally would, not matter what I do, it won't play in a preview. Their properties say they are .avi or mpeg, but Pixplay won't play them. I've been Googling, so far none have done the job. Someone suggested something called Gordon Knot and DVD2avi, which I haven't tried yet, I suppose I should just give up.

I even was able to download a program and rescue them from my recycle bin, and they appear in my pictures like they did before I deleted them. But Pixplay won't open them, saying it had no file handler for that type of .avi file or something like that. Apparently, it was they way it was compressed, so it's a mystery why they won't play now after being restored.

I just wanted to ask in here before I gave up on the project. I was so sure I had saved those raw clips on a cd, but didn't. If I copy them back from the slide show dvd, they appear as VTS_01.1.vob, and so far nothing I do has succeeded.
If you can ad any other advice, I would appreciate it, otherwise thanks for the help.
