wanted to update my post--additionally when clicking on "view" then "sorting" it produces an error report
"Access violation at address 00558FCA in module 'MLKing.exe'. Read of address 00000058" I would like to remark here that I have used maillist king for several years and have had great results--I hope we can get this fixed as I need to do a mailing

Hi Phil

What version were you using previously?

When you say your "groups" won't load, can you be more specific about the error message that you get?

Under View>Options, Other, Advanced, what are you caching settings?

It sounds as though your database has been corrupted.

Also please do the following:

1. Run MLK
2. Select File>Optimize Database
3. UNCHECK all options
4. Check the option to repair the database
5. Click OK

Nigel thanks for the advice, however, I have already tried that a couple of times. I think it was version 6 something cant tell you for sure right now i am posting from home--i use your software at work--additionally i have emailed the error report generated when i ticked the "sorting" option--the "groups" situation is when i tick the box next to a specific group (the group ticked only contained 43 email addresses) and then hit display it took over an hour to display the email addresses--i tried the repair again and it ran about 3 hours and froze--i really like this software and want to continue to use it--

Hi Phil

1. If it is slow then first you need to check that you are only caching around 500 records and not the entire database (View>Options, Other)

2. You can also repair your database as follows:

i) Download the Database Utility from http://www.xequte.com/download/dbsys330.exe
ii) Install and Run it.
iii) Select Utilities>Repair
iv) Click Select and browse to your database folder (search your hard disk for the file mlk_main.dat to locate your database folder)
v) Your database files will be displayed in the box below. Hold down the Ctrl key and select each file in turn (you can skip any named mlk_send_Task.*)
vi) Click Open to repair all of your files

Nigel, I ran the db fix program and Mailist king is still very slow--tried to display a group of only 47 contacts and it took over 5 minutes (the entire database is over 700,000 contacts with just the email address, name and company name entered in all the fields)Am I reaching maximum potential for this program ?
Sorry just tried to load another small group of 58 contacts and the program froze. Nigel, Please Help

Hi Phil

We regularly test databases with well in excess of one million addresses. It won't fly with a database of that size, but on a well spec'd machine it should perform adequately.

What is your setting for View>Options, Other, Database caching?

Hi Phil

I suspect that issue is a symptom of one of the other issues. Please, please confirm whether you have reduced the size of the cache and repaired the database? With that information i can move forward.

OK, Cool. I'll look into the issue for v7.05.

Until then (Friday) you change the sorting by clicking on the column header.
