I received the following error from MLK when sending a mailing just before Christmas...
"Mail not accepted from blacklisted IP address"
I send mailings using the 'SMTP (via my ISP's mail server)' sending method, specifying an account with virgin.net, though the sending is done using a tiscali broadband connection.
I queried the problem with virgin.net, and although I've had no response, MLK now seems to be working again.
I would like to get to the bottom of where this error came from, as I am worried that it will happen again. Do you know where this message will have originated? - from virgin.net, tiscali or MLK itself?
I am using MLK Professional Edition v6.21R.
Thanks

Hi Lynn
Most ISP's dynamically assign IP addresses (every time you login), so you were probably given an IP address that was recently used by a spammer and was thus put a blacklist.
When you logged into your ISP again you were given a new IP address which resolved the problem.

Nigel, Thanks for the quick response. Just so that I understand what's going on ... does MLK generate this error message itself, or is it relaying a message (which included the IP address) from my ISP (Tiscali) or from the mail server account I specififed (virgin.net). Thanks, Lynn. |

MLK is only passing on the error messages that it receives, in this case it would appear to be from the destination mail server.
