Im having problems linking my webform (as created on mailist king).

A percentage of our users do not have advanced PC skills and simply use MLK as an "add-on" for Outlook/Outlook Express for sending personalized messages and handling subscribes. For that group, there is little interest in creating and setting up a secondary email account.
Even in-house we have MLK processing our regular Outlook email account. It is convenient and offers other benefits because we make extensive use of the "Folder processing functions" e.g to automatically add customer orders to our mailing list, automatically unsubscribe fake vacation auto-responding addresses that are used to send spam, re-send serial numbers, etc.

Hi Nigel,
Retrieving emails from an email client's inbox is a novel idea. Is it really too difficult for people to set up separate subscribe email accounts and then configure MLK's POP settings? Surely they have to do that anyway using basic software such as Outlook Express or Windows Mail?
I have things working ok for my Newsletters and autoresponders, so although it would be nice to be able to send the test email after editing scheduled messages , MLK works well for me. It offers some quite sophisticated facilities and your support is first class. A few of the reasons I bought the software in the first place!

I agree that for most purpose the software should (and does) stand-alone, for example, sending is much faster if you go directly to your SMTP server rather than via your email software. However many users are not technically competent and they want the software to "just work". This is why MLK defaults to looking for mailing list messages in the Inbox of your email software and sending from there too. It requires no configuration and users can start using MLK straight away and switch to direct POP download and SMTP sending when they feel more confident.
There should be no major functionality lost by using these direct options rather than Outlook integration.

Hi Nigel,
I accept that Outlook has a big following - a bit like Word and all the Office suite. And your point about integration. I just feel MLK could follow its own path a bit more and be a good stand alone application too; doing a specic job well - being a "Mail List King" Not something that relies upon Outlook for some of its major features.
Am I unusual in having an email client for all my everyday correspondence, CRM etc and wanting a separate specific application to handle Newsletters, marketing mailshots, auto responder series etc. Hence my comments about the shortcomings in MLK when designig and making up Newsletters etc. And I do not want to do all this from within my general email client; but I guess some folk do! .

Love it or hate it, Outlook has the best integration library of any email program. In other words, it's simply not possible for third-party programs to access the functionality of the email software as you can with Outlook.
Also, from the recent survey:
Outlook: 65.9%
POP : 18.5%
Outlook Express: 4.9%
Other email sofware: 7.0%

I think you should bear in mind that for lots of people, myself included, Outlook would be the last email client we would consider using! Collecting directly from a POP email account, using the email software of choice, should be the default in MLK.
Incidently, I would use Text Lighting for example, if it could be used with other software.

Thanks for your log. I didn't realize you were downloading messages directly from a POP server. The AVG anti-virus certificates were causing problems. I've emailed you an update that will fix it.

Hi
If the messages are ignored then there are three main possibilities:
- Web form subject does not match rules
- Message is not in the processing folder
- Email address is not found in the web form message
As we have eliminated the first two, check that the field for email checking is:
E-mail
And the character that separates field and value is:
: (i.e. a colon)
If you still have problems please generate and send me a debug log (i'll email you the details).

The web form processing works fine.
The messages are just ignored.

What version are you using (look in Help > About on the menu)
Are the web form message in MLK's processing folder (the one specified under View > Options, Email Processing)?
Does the web form message get deleted or just ignored?

I have also tried sending a custom email and this also does not work.
If its any help i use formmail.pl on my 1and1 server.
