 DVD burning problem in v. 4.0

I'm sorry to join the ranks of those having problems with v. 4.0, but here I am. Maybe one out of 5 DVDs runs to the end, otherwise they stall at various, different places on the way. The preview wor

Pixplay v. 3.35 works perfectly with the same picture set and hardware. I'm running under Windows XP SP1 with a Sony SOHC 4832K drive. A preview of the slideshow plays through, but the DVD stalls.

Suggestions? Thanks.

Are you saying they stall out on the burning process or do they stall on the PLAYING OF THE DISK on computer or dvd player after the burning process?

How many pics or videos are there in the slideshow---how many minutes is the show?

You are extremely unlikely to see any difference in burning DVD's in v3.35 or v4.0, simply because Nigel has made zero changes in that area of the program. It's the same code, so from a programmatic perspective all else being equal the output should be the same.

The problem is in playing. The DVD burner goes through the entire process and ejects the disk. Different burns stall at different places, but usually within the first 5-10% of the disk. A frame displays, and nothing other than turning off the player works. I've tried these disks in the burner, another computer drive and a separate DVD player with the same result.

The slide show contains about 150 mpg files, no videos, with several cuts of music lasting about 17 minutes.

Jim--Thanks, but from your earlier comment that seems a strange solution. I've used these TDK +R disks for 3 years on all previous versions of PixPlay with no problems. What cuold Eric have done to suddenly make these disks unusable on V. 4.0? (I have another 100 disks, so I hope there is another solution ).

You could try using a DVD CLEANER KIT--if there is dust or dirt on the lens or disk this will also create skips.

Jim-- I think that's a good idea in general (I'll have to buy one). However, each disk burned with v. 3.35 plays ok, but only 1 out of 5 or 6 did with v. 4.0. Anyway, I should have a cleaner, so I'll try that when I next get near my electronics store.

You do not have to waste any disk burning---if you use the TEST button and it creates and Previews the slideshow, than DVD PIXPLAY has done the job correctly. The Preview uses the Windows codecs so that should indicate that the disc should play on the computer. If you still have v3.35 on the computer check to see that the options you have selective in the past are the same as the ones you are using on v4.0. As i said before, there has been NO changes made to the BURNING PROCESS--so there must be something that has changed in the OPTIONS,DISK,DVD PLAYER ETC.

Try burning the slideshow again and if you have problems send the log file to Nigel so he can analyize it.

Several more experiments. First, I installed DVDPixPlay 4.0 on my laptop and created a disk of comparable size. It played without problems. Second, as I said, I don't yet have a DVD cleaner kit, but I did 'gently' blow compressed air through my burner, and then created a DVD from the same project as before. SUCCESS! OK, that's just one trial, but after many previous failures I'm going to hope that dirt was the issue and it's now gone. I don't have any additional projects now, so I'll have to wait a bit for additional tests, but I'm hopeful we're over that problem.

Thanks very much, Jim, for the advice and information. I'll give the drive an official cleaning and see whether it continues working.

You're not alone, we do have a three other customers who believe v4 has broken the burning somewhere (fortunately it is only a tiny fraction of those upgraded to v4), so if your subsequent tests don't eliminate dirt as being the issue, then please e-mail me your burning log:

C:\Program Files\DVD PixPlay\PixPlayLog.txt
