I just installed MLK pro. I purchased it becuase the local ISP has restrictions on number of domains/users per message and I was hoping the MLK internal server would get me past that restriction. I have a firewall which I opened ports 25 and 53 on. The ISP service is DHCP. I have told MLK to use the ISP DNS server for sending messages. No firewall in Windows XP. Disabled Norton Autoprotect.

Have tried sending test message. Here is my log.

Please let me know what you think. Hope it is not an ISP port blocking thing.

Hi Maharagj and Fitz219a,

Please email me the log file for the sending task:

1. Run MLK and click Ctrl+Shift+I.
2. Check the box to display your database folder and click "OK"
3. Browse to the subfolder named "SendLogs"
4. In that folder your log files are named "mail_sent_*.txt" with the date of the delivery included in the name. Find the files of the relevant date and send them to me

Hi Venom

It looks like the default ports are not set up correctly on your system.

Please email me the following file:

Hi

Actually yours is a different problem, one that is much less common. The Internal Server is actually able to connect to the web but the delivery is failing.

I'll need to send you some debug logging information so i can get a better idea what is going on.

Just for completeness sake and for those who may run into this in the future...

Yes it was my ISP (Cox Cable) that was blocking port 25.

The solution for me was to use my ISP's SMTP Server (Cox Cable's tech support people gave me the server info).

This was satisfactory for me as my main thing was that I didn't want to go through Microsoft Outlook.

As an added bonus, it is allegedly faster to go through my ISP's SMTP Server.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Lane

Check your ISP does not block port 25 (many do).

Also if you are using an anti-virus product, particularly Norton, try disabling that to see if it makes any difference.

Hello,

I have completely turned of the Windows firewall and bypassed my 5-port LinkSys router so that I am hooked directly to my ISP (Cox Cable) and I still can't get the Internal SMTP Server to work.

Did you ever get it working or is there anyone else who can help a non-techy like me?

I sincerely appreciate any help that anyone would be kind enough to send my way.

By the way, this looks like it will be a great little program - IF I can get it to send email like it is advertised to send.

Just for completeness sake, here is the email I sent to support which includes my sendlog:

Now, here is my problem. I have set up group with 6 members (all of which are my personal emails) so that I can test and get familiar with the software.

I have configured the software to send via the Internal SMTP Server. However, the emails are not being sent. Digging around the help file, I found that I could check the SendLogs file which I have pasted below.

My system information is as follows:

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation

I do have/use McAfee VirusScan

My LAN connection is a firewalled connection

My internet provider is Cox Cable which is a broadband (I believe) connection.

Thanks for all your help,

Lane Fox

It's difficult to tell from just one recipient, but it looks like MLK is being blocked from the Internet. It could be your ISP blocking port 25 but more likely it is something on your own network. I see you have opened your firewall but you might also want to check your router, as many have firewalls built-in.

Also have you tried using the default DNS option, rather than specifying the DNS server to use?

For the next test please add a few more recipients (you can use some xequte.com ones) and if the problem persists send me the relevant mail_sent_*.txt file from the "SendLogs" folder under your database folder (click Ctrl+Shift+I to display your key folders).

BTW, you can also use the batch/scheduled sending option to stay under the limits imposed by your ISP (let me know your ISP restrictions if you want further details).
