Hi!

Just bought the DVD PixPlay and have been a DiJi Album user for quite a long time.
Since programs more and more use the IPTC-standard to include information in the picture file, I would like to have the option to have this information automatically as comments to pictures in a slideshow. I do a lot of scans for a local Local Heritage Movement and we use the IPTC for descriptions.

Some competitors already have that option

DO you have this as a "wanted feature" for new versions ?

Sorry Olle, I forgot what forum I was in for a moment there.

I will add an option to a coming version of DVD PixPlay (and Diji Album) to allow it to read the descriptions from IPTC fields.

Nigel!

I believe you are talking about the functions in a third program - Smartpix.
This function (from what I can see) is not included in either DiJi Album or DVD Pixplay.
If so, let me know where to find it!

Unfortunately there are two different fields "Caption" and "Description"

There should be an option when importing picture files into either DiJi-album or DVD PixPlay to have the IPTC Caption put below the pictures when you make a picture album.

Caption "Long form description of Subject and related subject data in a Natural Language caption " Max 2000 characters.

You can do that already.

Go into File>Options, Database, and set the option to read Photoshop descriptions and keywords.

Then whenever you add images to your database, you can view the IPTC description by displaying the description toolbar (View>Flyover toolbars) and the IPTC keywords by displaying the keywords toolbar.

Excellent product - does almost everything I was looking for., and quickly. Still trying to work out how to get full IPTC informtaion onto slides - can manage to get %IPTC-Description% on which relates to "Caption" in Lightroom, but fail to get "Date/Time Original", and "Title" - any ideas? Was this option ever implemented?

Hi John

In DPP4 - Professional Edition support was added for a lot of IPTC and EXIF fields. However the ones you are referring to appear to have a different name. If you email me an example file I will advise.

Hi Nigel,
Firstly thanks for the rapid and positive reply.

Secondly, Damn, I should have read the product comparisons and purchased DPP Pro directly. I have tried to find a means of upgrading from Personal to Pro, but it seems that as a Personal user I have to purchase Pro at the full price - I was hoping for a product Upgrade option (rather than the software upgrade option which I have found). Is there something I have missed?

And thirdly, from what I've seen of DPP Personal so far, it is the quickest, simplest, most comprehensive slideshow creator software that exists, and your customer service is second to none. Where have you been hiding?
Honestly, your product has enabled to me to do in a couple of hours what I have been trying for weeks to achieve with other, less flexible products. I use RAW images 'developed' in Adobe Lightroom to produce my web galleries. Lightroom can also produce excellent looking and sounding slideshows but there is only the option to export to a .pdf file (without music). Boring, and useless. With DPP, I export my treated RAW images to JPEG from Lightroom, add them into DPP, then add music, etc. Magic - The ablility to transfer the EXIF/IPTC data used in Lightroom, is a LIFESAVER. This is THE solution Lightroom users have been looking for - see the O'Reilly page http://www.oreillynet.com/digitalmedia/blog/2007/02/_a_lightroom_quicktime_slidesh_1.html for a full description of the problem, and the "work-arounds" they propose. I firmly believe that you could approach ADOBE for them to use DPP Pro as a plug-in to their Lightroom product. If you have (or can develop) a Mac version, you are well on your way to becoming a millionaire (if you aren't already).
regards
john

JOHNC

DVD PixPlay users can upgrade to the Professional version for only $27.60 (normally $34.50) until June 7, 2008:

If you ask Nigel he may extend the dateline since you did not ask this question until earlier.

Thanks for the reply Jim, I sent a mail to Nigel - I bought DPP Personal, and then bought the Pro version in less than 24 hours - as soon as I realised I needed the additional IPTC fields.

Hi John

We're still catching up on emails due to our upgrade last week. You can change to the Professional version within four weeks of purchasing/upgrading by emailing us (and you'll only be charged the difference).
