 How are blocked addresses/domains processed?

Nigel,

I've been receiving a number of fake subscription requests from the domain 123.com, 84 over the past week. My MLK is a dedicated computer and subscriptions handled via a script that generates an RAC command. (I’m not using web forms.) I added *@126.com to Address blocking and the addresses aren’t getting added. But what is happening is I’m receiving confirmation emails stating the email address is being added to the list. It’ looks like they are adding themselves many times. So the first message says Success 1 subscribed, and the following say Success 0 subscribed.

This is what I would expect for a normal multiple subscription. But what I don’t understand is why I’m getting any subscription notification if the domain is being blocked? Shouldn’t MLK drop the subscription request and do not send any notification?

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug

To clarify, is this a RAC reply confirming that the command has processed, or is it one of the acknowledgement messages (i.e. for a subcribe).

What is the RAC commands you are using?

When someone subscribes a script creates an email addressed to
<email address>
Subject: SubscribeList List1,List2 pw:###
Body empty

I receive the following

Processed remote admin command: "SubscribeList List1,List2"

Success: 1 address was subscribed
Addresses:
xxxxx@123cn.com

Processed remote admin command: "SubscribeList List1,List2"

Subsequent messages are .....
Success: 0 address was subscribed
Addresses:
xxxxx@123cn.com

I might receive 10 to 20 of the second message.
I'm thinking who ever is doing the subscribing is hitting subscribe 10 to 20 times.

This is happening after @123cn.com is on the blocked list.

Hi Doug

A RAC command will always generate a response, even in this situation when it is a blocked address. It would be better to have your script masquerade as a user and send subscribe requests (in which case blocked addresses will not generate a confirmation message).
