How can I easily time certain frames with my background music?
Firstly, if you simply want to automatically stretch the slideshow display to match the length of the background music use the "Automatically stretch the slideshow to background music" option.
However if you need much more control over your timing you can use the "Align to Frames" function.

Let's say you have two songs named "Song_A" and "Song_B" and six frames named "Photo_1" to "Photo_6". You want each song to play for three frames.

1. Go into Edit > Slideshow Properties, Background Music tab.
2. Select Song_A and click "Align to Frames"
3. Choose "Photo_3" and click OK
» Song_A will now play while Photo_1, Photo_2 and Photo_3 are showing

4. Select Song_B and click "Align to Frames"
5. Choose "Photo_6" as the "Align to Frame"
6. Specify "Photo_4" as "Don't stretch frames prior to" (so the display times up to Photo_3 are not changed)
7. Click OK
» Song_B will now play while Photo_4, Photo_5 and Photo_6 are showing

I use a free program called audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ )to do the alignment that you are trying to achieve. Think of Music and Voiceovers as having the same requirements i.e. to line up with a particular frame or set of frames. Read this thread and if you want or need more help post back.

What version are you using?

FYI in v4.05 NIGEL added an "Align to Frames" function. Since you have v4.01??? this should be a FREE UPDATE so just download the latest version from the website.

Hi,
Just last week I purchased pixplay professional version 5.02 and I am having a similar problem to cyba_r and some others in that I am wanting to time sections of my presentation with different tracks.

I cannot find an 'align to frames' tool, but do have a 'sync to frames' tool on the 'slideshow properties'> 'Background Music', box. I'm assuming this is the tool you are referring to. I have followed the step by step instructions listed but it still doesn't seem to work with different tracks starting on eg slide 20. Does this work better in the personal version of the program? If so can I also download that? I assume it is probalby the same in that version. Is there anyway I can do what I need to in Pixplay, before resorting to Audacity to record a track with correct?

Besides this little music glitch we are loving the program and see lots of slideshows about to be created in this house!

Cheers
Di

Hi Di

The function was renamed "Sync to Frames" to try to make its function more obvious. It works the same in all editions of PixPlay.

Can you please clarify the steps you are taking and specifically what PixPlay is doing to the music (that does not match with your expectations).

i just purchased pixplay v5.03 on the internet and am trying to coordinate my music between videos. i have tried to sync the music but keep getting an error message saying your program could not be stretched even though i've changed the music numerous times to make it longer or shorter. do you think the software i downloaded is missing something? how come you can't sync it by timing the video and putting the time in where you want the music to start?

also, can you preview the show from the current slide or video without going through the whole thing again?

i really need your help. thank you

The following link should answer your question regarding adding music to a slideshow:

http://www.xequte.com/support/pixplayfaq.html#stretching_slideshow

Make sure on the BURN DISK(DVD FORMAT)>burning wizard--step 2 of 3 that the "stretch slideshow to match music length" IS CHECKED.

Also, regarding Preview --do the following:

View>Options --Make sure the box "always start previews from the first frame" IS NOT CHECKED.

CLICK OK

thanks for the update, jim. i was able to create chapters and use my music at the start of each chapter before the video. however, now there is no sound on the video. i will try to use the highest quality when i burn my dvd to see if that works and change the mpeg option. for some reason the sync to frame is not working for me and i get error messages that say i need to play all the videos first.
i'll let you know what happens.

thanks again.

Do you have any title pages or image slides before your video clips?

At present DVD PixPlay does not support audio for video files unless they are before all images (and title pages) in the slidshow list.

If you have Title Pages, then video files then the audio track of the video files will not play.

If you want to hear the audio track of your videos you will need to move them to the start of the slideshow (Edit>Advance>Move Videos to Start).

hi jim,

the basic concept worked but the sound was off. also whether i burn it or save it, it takes over an hour just to save the files for the burn. i liked the program when i first started using it but i am not very happy with the results. it seems i'll only be able to use it if there are no video files added to my presentation.

appreciate all the help you've given me.

From Nigel's answers to the DVD PIXPLAY SURVEY, here is a suggestion on how to use your videos:

> It is quite important to be able to present a title page even though the show starts with videos.

Improvemetns in this area are planned. But the easy way around this is to use the "Multiple Slideshow" function. Then you can have a menu (as a title page) which points to each of your videos.
