Am I missing something? Having set up custom fields and imported info I now find that trying to import further data, I do not have the ability to map the file import fields to my custom fields?

These are not shown as options; only the basic standard fields appear as mapping options. Surely this cannot be right? What is the point of having custom fields if you cannot then map imported data to them!

Any ideas please?
Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter

For the sake of simplicity we made it when importing data into custom fields that it always imports into a custom field of the same name as the column.

It might be good to have the option of mapping to another custom field, but we have only ever had one other user request it so it has never bubbled to the top of the to-do list.

Hi Nigel,
The first import was fine; the data was selected as being a custom field and the columns then showed that ok.

My problem arose when trying to import data again. MLK does not recognise the new custom fields added so they do not appear in the field mapping list; consequently there is no means of mapping the new imported data to them.

Furthermore, I can see no way of accessing the actual database generated to add or remove fields as required.

Unfortunately, as I do not use Outlook, (maybe MLK is better there?) for me, MLK is little more than a simple mass mailer. Since there is still no means of properly editing a mailshot once it has been scheduled for a later send, - even the minimise button on the main composing window if you choose to use it does not work at any time - I have to design my newsletters outside of the software and then paste content into MLK. I guess I'll just have to keep to a simple first name, last name and email address in MLK too!

Hi Peter

When importing, you don't need to map the specific custom fields to their destination custom field, just use "Add as Custom Field" and MLK will automatically add it to the custom field of the name of that column.

40% of MLK users do not use Outlook at all (according to our survey last year) so it is not really a requirement. MLK is quite happy integrating with other MAPI compliant email software (Outlook Express, Windows Mail, etc) or directly with your servers.
