Recently I've needed to add several folk in MailList King manually, after phone calls etc.
My problem is that for some reason the "Birthday" field was automatically completed with the last used date - and at the time I didn't remember to uncheck the box in the birthday field.
Now, although I am able to uncheck this box in the "Edit Member Record" area, it won't save when I click "ok". The next time I open "Edit Member Record" it is ticked again.
I don't know the birthdays for these people, so want to disable this box. As you would appreciate, I don't want incorrect birthday greetings going out. :-)
I've looked through the forum, but can't find any posts from others with a similar problem.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope I can fix the issue. In the meantime, I've disabled automated birthday messages altogether - though would like to re-enable this asap.

Hi Sue
Hmmm, that's a weird one.
Are you able to reproduce it with other contacts, if so, what are the steps?
When it comes back as checked again does it shows today's date or the original date?
Also, what version of Windows are you on?

I'm on Vista Home Premium.
I've just checked the issue in more detail with various contacts. It appears that the problem is occurring only with the 8 contacts I added manually - and all have the same birth date of 19/09/2007
Obviously that was not a date I entered intentionally for anyone, as all my contacts are much older than that. :-)
So I guess I can simply delete those eitht contacts and re-enter them, rather than bother you with what appears to be an unusual glitch.
Though one other question in relation to birthdays - for several people I have the day and month but not the year. That's all that is required for the automated birthday responses, and I've got around the issue by listing the year as 1900, the earliest year that is accepted. (I tried 0000 but that doesn't work and reverts to 2000)
Is that the best way to get around that particular issue? I'm assuming it's not possible to leave the year out entirely.
Cheers Sue

Hi Nigel
Another note on this issue ... it appears to be a problem ANY time I try to enter a new member manually!
Unforunately MailList King doesn't allow exporting only one or a select few members to a csv file - only individually to a text file. I did that for each of the 8 people with whom I'd had the problem, and began re-entering each of them manually again.
In every case, the birth date on the blank entry screen defaulted to 19/09/2007 - and I couldn't disable the tick box. So every manually entered record is producing the same error - and, it would appear, the same date.
I've just got around it by entering all the data from the 8 exported text files into an Excel file, saving that as a csv file and importing it into MailList King. This process worked fine, and there are no birthdays recorded for these 8 people, which is as it should be. But it as a long workaround! :-)
So it would appear there's a problem with the birthday field, if entering records manually - unless it's some wierd glitch on my system only?

Hi Sue
I can confirm that the birthday can be enabled by default when creating a new member. I'll have a fix in 8.12.

Hi Nigel
Thank you for the update - I'll look forward to 8.12 and the fix. :-)
In the meantime, any folk I need to add manually will go into an Excel file first - even if it's just a row or two - and I'll import them.
Cheers, Sue |
