I just bought a new computer and put MLK 8 on it. I went through all the Option screens on the old computer and tried to match them, but it's still not process double opt-ins. First time submissions are fine. I'm set up for double opt-ins and moving processed e-mails to another folder. But they're just sitting there. What could I be missing?

Suggestion: A great feature would have been a profile file that I could have copied from my old computer and loaded into the new MLK to take care of specifying all the settings.

OK, I figured out that my double opt-ins aren't working because when I exported my mailing list, it didn't include the people who were in the pipeline. So I went to the list in History & Errors on my old computer and exported it. Now, I don't know how to import it into the new list.

Please help!

Hi Ellen

When you move MLK from an old computer to a new one, you should copy all of your database and settings so that you do not need to reconfigure at all:

1. Run MailList King on the old machine and click Ctrl+Shift+I. This will display the two important folders for MailList King (configuration and database).

2. Install MailList King on your new computer, run it and click Ctrl+Shift+I. This will show you where MailList King is saving your configuration and database on the new computer

3. Close MailList King

4. Copy your all of the files in your settings folder from Step 1 to the settings folder on the new computer from Step 2

5. Do the same for your database files


If it is too late for you to follow these steps above (because you've already added new members), let me know and we will use plan B.

Nigel,
Sounds wonderful, but I didn't know about it. So, what's plan B? I'm think I'm all set up except for the double opt-in list. One problem I'm having is that when I go into the Double Opt-In list and click Export, the resulting file doesn't have the names; it's just a heading row and one other row with 1's in it, like this:

Date Index E-mail GroupName Full Name Comments Action Other
1 1 1 1 1 1 Subscribe 1

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the purpose of Export.

Also, when I tried to load it in the Add/Remove Addresses dialog box (I didn't know then that it didn't contain the addresses I wanted), I get the Specify Recipient List file dialog box. When I browse to that file and click Close (I don't see anything else to choose) I get a message that the e-mail column doesn't have valid email addresses. When I click No, that I don't want to continue, the dialog box just returns and I'm in a loop that I can't get out of. Seems like a bug to me.

Hi Ellen

Both these issues have been fixed in v8.01.

Plan B:

1. Export your double opt-in list to a file
2. Open the file in Excel and separate it into Subscribe and Unsubscribe files
3. Select List > Add Addresses
4. Load the email addresses in your Subscribe file
5. Check the box to send Double Opt-Ins, click OK
6. Repeat steps 3 - 5 for your Unsubscribe file
