I just updated my PC again and am having fun & games getting MLK to work. Here's what I did so far:-
I use MLK Pro v4.38p, and this is no longer available for download from the MLK website. So I copied the entire /programs/MailList King directory from the old PC to the new PC. Then I simply ran the executable on the new PC and it all seemed to work OK. I can create and send messages OK. However I then discovered a problem with adding/deleting list entries using Outlook. When I click on "Add Addresses" the Outlook directory structure is correctly displayed; I highlight the folder I wish to extract addresses from, and select the "From address" and "Message Body" options, and click on OK to do the extraction. This always worked in the past on the old PC, yet I get an error message "The Folder (folder name), could not be opened." Clicking on "OK" to acknowledge that message generates a 2nd message - "No email addresses were found in the specified folder". There certainly are some there.
I re-entered the user ID and registration key just to make sure I wasn't trying to do something that the software thought it wasn't enabled for, but no change.
So I can send to my existing list but I can't modify the list.
For the record, it's MLK4.38p, Outlook 2000, Win XP Home edition. The only difference was that the older PC, a laptop, ran XP Professional.
Any ideas?
Nick

Hi Nick
The cause will be that MLK's DLL's are not registered correctly with Windows, because you did not use the installer (you can always email us for a link to the installer).
At any rate, the fix is quite simple.
Run MLK and then click Ctrl+Shift+R and click Yes when it prompts you.

Hi Nigel
I'll send you a mail requesting the link.
I've tried the Ctrl+Shift+R suggestion but typing key combination this does nothing at all. I'm not sure what's supposed to happen - should a dialogue box appear? Should this work from anywhere within MLK or do I have to be somewhere specific for it to work?
Regards

Well, I got the link and downloaded 4.38P. I installed it correctly and entered the user name and reg number (which, incidentally, were different to the ones originally supplied). All seemed to be fine until I re-attempted to modify the list by scanning some mails in an Outlook folder, exactly as previously described. I get the same error, and still can't mod the list.
Not sure how to proceed - help!

Hi Nigel
Tried that - seemed to run OK - but still no change to behaviour and I can't scan Outlook folders.

Hi Nigel
I have fixed the problem. I don't know 100% why the error arose in the first place - I looked at the MS link and found quite a few other sites referring to the problem - however these references all seem to be associated with error messages experienced by the user of Outlook when trying to send/receive from within Outlook. I'm sure the root cause of the problem is the same, but the MS pages are not really very helpful.
I tried running the inboox repair tool (scanpst.exe) and this had no effect.
The Solution
I had a SUSPICION that this may be due to the size of the .pst file we are trying to scan. Mine is pretty big (nearly 2GB). So I opened some smaller .pst files and tried to scan them - and it worked OK. It may not be just a size thing, so I can't really be absolutely sure, but I have seen quite a few references to all sorts of problems with .pst files as they near 2GB. Here is one such link:-
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-738634.php
So what I've done is to create a seperate .pst file just for mailing list stuff. This is a lot smaller (under 50MB) and scanning this seems to work OK.
Remember we are talking about quite an old version of Outlook here - Outlook 2000 - and maybe later versions of Outlook don't suffer from the same problems with large .pst files.
However, we are functional again.

Nick

Hi Nick
Thanks for the update.
BTW Outlook has a hard limit on PST files of 2GB, so if you are getting close to that you will wnat to split it up or strip large attachments.
