I have used DVD Pixplay a lot for creating slideshow from digital photographs, that works fine and error free. But now I'm trying to use it for something else.
I have a DVD that does not play well on my DVD player/recorder (Philips). It plays OK for approx. 1 sec, then it stops for 1/5 of a sec, then it plays again OK for 1 sec, ... . The picture is of the size 4x3. It also does not play the first few minutes of the DVD. It looks as if there is an incompatibility between my DVD player/recorder and the format of the DVD.
I "ripped" the DVD with the tryout version of Magic DVD Ripper to SVCD, and then used this file as input to DVD Pixplay (current version) to recreate DVD format files. The output is a reasonable quality DVD file that plays well on my DVD player/recorder. But..., the picture is in letterbox (16x9) format rather than the oldfashioned 4x3 TV size and the people look a lot fatter than they were on the original DVD. What do I do wrong please, how can I ensure that the picture on the created DVD has the same size as the old one (4x3)? |

For viewing on a TV do the following:
If you change the "Override Aspect Ratio" setting to "TV" (4.3)under View>Options>Other Options>Advance Options>Compatability Options, and check the Override Mpeg internal aspect ration flag with TV(from the drop down box), does that make any difference?

Hi Jim,
On "View>Options>Other Options>Advance Options>Compatability Options" in my DVD Pixplay, there is only "Override MPEG internal aspect ratio flag with", and that is on "TV (4x3)". There is no line "Override Aspect Ratio". With these settings, the DVD output file is in 16x9 size. With the "Override ..." set to "Square (1,1)", same result. Btw, the .mpeg output from Magic DVD Ripper that is input to DVD Pixplay displays in the 4x3 size in vlc media player from Videolan. When I write the VIDEO disk with Nero SE Essentials, its says "Target Video options 720x576()CCIT.601-D1) -- 16x9". When I check DVD Pixplay to write directly to DVD, it does it but size = 16x9. Any other recommendations? |

How about if you enable the widescreen option by clicking the "Other Settings" button on step 3 of the Burn DVD Format Slideshow wizard and under "Other" check this option.

I don't have a button "other options" in step 3. In step 3 I only can select the Television type (PAL selected) and the Display Options, Output Quality (Highest selected). The only place where I can see a "other options" button is in "advanced options" under "program options", and there there is no "wide screen" option nor an "other". While executing the wizard to step 3 ("Burn" icon clicked), I also cannot click any button from the top line (File Edit Frame ...). Are we talking about the same version? When I click "help" and then "about DVD Pixplay", it replies that I'm using V3.35. I think that that's the latest version. Btw, where on your website can I see which version is current? |

Some more info: when in step 3 of the "Burn" wizard I click the "Test" button, it displays for a while its progress, just like when it is doing a normal convertion (step 5?) and then it starts to display the generate "film". After an initial dark purply flash on the screen, it displays a completely black screen (progress slider does not move).
After I created an output on disk I can "play" this output with VLC, but as I said already it is in 16:9 ratio. |

ANSWER: If you look on the bottom right hand side of this page you will see the box "OTHER SETTINGS." Click on that button. It will bring up the screen 'other slideshow options" under that is the "other" heading and then check the option for "reformat slidfeshow for display on wide screen tv."

Sorry but I don't see an "other settings" box anywhere on the step 3 screen of the "burn disk" process. The bottom line of the step 3 window shows only 4 buttons: Test, Previous, Next and Cancel. If you could email me your email address I will send you a screenshot of the relevant DVD Pixplay display. |

Jim, is correct, that is where the button will be on step 3 at the bottom right (above "Cancel"). Note: It is not shown if you choose the Image slideshow option.
Please send me a screenshot of what you are seeing.

Thanks for the sending the file. You are burning only a single video to disk, so in that situation the option is not relevant and the button is not displayed (I'm sorry I didn't click earlier).
When converting video files you need to ensure the original video is of the same ratio as the output (i.e. 4x3 in this case).
Have you tried using the aspect ratio setting as Jim suggested? Also if you click the Preview button, how does the aspect look there?

I took an mpg file as input. The file plays on my PC (with VLC) in 4:3 ratio.
I executed DVD Pixplay with this file as input and with View - Options - Other Options - Advanced Options - Compatibility Options - Override MPEG internal aspect ratio flags with set to "TV (4:3)", as Jim recommended.
The output of this process (a VOB file) plays on my PC (with VLC) and on my TV (with a Philips DVD player) in ratio 16:9.
If necessary I can send you both files, but consider that such mail will be around 100 MB.

I think I found a bug in DVDPixplay V3-35, but I also developed a workaround.
When one has set settings in DVDPixplay, some (if not all) are saved when the app is closed and these settings are reloaded as defaults next time when the app is started.
When I created my latest slideshow, I did set the Slideshow Settings - Other Settings - Other - "Reformat slideshows for display on Widescreen TVs" to avoid that the left and right sides of the slides are "cut off" on my 4:3 TV.
Now I see that, when I tried to create the video as described in this forum, the setting STILL IS ON when I start DVDPixplay but I cannot see nor change it!!!!
Workaround: Add a completely black slide after the MPEG file and instruct DVDPixplay to show it without music during 1 sec (so that viewers do not notice it). Because now the slideshow contains not only an MPEG but also a slide, DVDPixplay allows to change the setting.
After having changed the setting using this workaround, the created DVD (followed by the black slide) displays in format 4:3, as I intended to.
I recommend you to correct this "bug" in next version of DVDPixplay: probably you should allow changing ALL settings in ALL cases, even if it looks as if it is not really required.
