Assuming you have captured the First Name of the subscribers in your database, this is an easy task. When you compose the outgoing message, click on the "Personalize" drop-down menu and choose the "Insert First Name Field". Go through the same process for any other fields that you have in your database.

Tip - set up several email aliases for yourself, create a test group and subscribe the various alias addresses to them. Then compose an email using the variable fields and send the email to the test group to see how it looks and performs.

Hope this helps.

Hi

I'd also like to add:

- With a standard email MLK will get the name from the reply address, e.g. if the reply address is:

John Smith <john@smithco.com>

Then it will correctly guess that the first name is "John"

If no name is specified, e.g. reply address is just:

john@smithco.com

Then no first name will be put into the database. However you can choose to use %EMAIL_USER_NAME% as the default for %FIRST_NAME% so that the part before @ is used when no first name is available.

Personally i don't recommend that, because with an address like:

johhniewilcox@smith.com

MLK has no good way to correctly guess that the first name should be "Johnnie"

- Also, don't forget that you can use the Preview button on the message sending toolbar to see what values MLK will substitute for any personalization fields you use in your message.
