I am exporting 1 database from MLK and then attempting to import it. I have tried making a CSV and a XLS. Both files are auto saved with out an extension. If you manually add it, they open fine , but when importing with MLK it says 'error encountered reading your excel spread sheet' 'Your import file is blank’.

After exporting them, they did not auto save with a file extension. I renamed them to CSV or XLS (depending on how I saved them) This allowed me to view them in excel.

When importing, MLK shows it will import CSV or XLS. Unless you manually add the extension to the file, they will not show up when browsing for a file to import. If you manually add the extension they will give this error and not import.

If you don't add the extension manually then you must select 'all files' to view these files which seem to import just fine.

Hope this helps someone else, this little fix would have saved me a lot of time!

Thanks for the feedback, Justus, MLK does require that import files have valid extensions, so the issue here is that it failed to add an extension when saving.

I assume you exported using File>Import and Export, Export?

Yes, I did use the export function. However, MLK would NOT use the file if it had an extension. It saved it with no extension and then if I added one, it would not import it.

Exported and saved with no ext. (yes one was selected)
Will import this save file with no ext.
File not usable (csv, xls) unless ext is manually added.

Not sure if this is a feature or bug, but I just hope I can save someone else the 4 hours I spent on it.
