I use Text Lightning with Outlook 2016 64bit. There is a useful button called "Insert Salutation" which puts Hi... followed by the first name extracted from their email name.

Can I make it so I don't have to click "Insert Salutation" with every new message?

Sure, click the options button on the Text Lightning toolbar. Then choose the "Toolbar" tab. There is an box there for "Automatically insert salutation" .
