Posted - Mar 04 2021 : 14:37:32 I just upgraded from v15 to v18. I'm running V18 for the first time and I am getting the message "upgrading your database". The message has been up for about 2 hours now.
Is that normal? How long should we expect the database upgrade to take? Our DB folder is about 1.4 gB so it's a pretty large DB I guess.

Posted - Mar 07 2021 : 00:54:42 Hi Sean
Sorry I wasn't able to respond to this quick enough. The main problem with database upgrades are caused by huge History tables as they can become massive if the option to automatically archive old entries are not used. If you were doing it again I would suggest that you manually archive old entries and use the other optimization options under File > Options, Database.
As you say, it is possible an error was encountered and when switching back to MLK it could not bring the message to the front.
Anyway, it sounds like you got there in end, so good work and apologies for the headache.

Posted - Mar 05 2021 : 11:28:57 Update on this one for future trouble shooting....long story short, the v15 to v18 upgrade worked great as long as we imported to the old DB a bit differently.
After choosing the DB on the first run of V18 through the file selection dialog that automatically appears, there is a large grey box that appears saying "Upgrading your database" without a progress bar. We had to kill that process on the machine after 12 hours of trying and re-run V18 choosing not to set up/import a DB when running. When we then choose to set up a DB from an existing one from MLK (our old DB) (File tab>Open Mailing List), the interface was a bit different when it ran the database update out of the gate. About half way through we got an error message of "tblGroups:Cannot perform this operation on a closed data set." which stopped the update, but we were able to click OK and it finished without error (and very quickly!).
Seems like that out of the gate dialog of "Upgrading your database" likely ran into an error in the background but didn't show an option to confirm the error and move past it and got hung up, while running the update through File tab>Open Mailing list showed the errors and allowed us to click through |
