I want to import a xls file to a new made group (group name: group2).

However the members in this xls file are the same as in an existing group (group name: group1). The first time I imported data to group1, I only had the email addresses. But now I need to import some other field values too. And I don't want to overwrite the data in group1, because there might be some email updates or unsubscribed emails.

Is it safe to import the new xls file to this new group (group2) without risking the data of group1 being changed?

Hi

There is no need to install "separate licenses on one computer". You only need one installation for as many instances of MailList King as you like (installing MailList King twice would not change that).

You can give each instance of MLK its own database and settings as outlined in the FAQ.

Sorry Nigel,

I've just read something interesting in the faq's (http://www.xequte.com/support/maillistkingfaq.html#29). It's about using a separate database per company (I believe that's what you were talking about in your latest reply). I'm giving this a go first, to see how big of a headache it would be, in my case. If that isn't too bad, I will use this option to separate all data between my customers.

Still I would like to know if it's possible to install different licenses on 1 computer, if this option with separate databases turns out to be to much of a headache.

Hi Nigel,

Ok, so that's a no no. And what if I would buy a single license per group? I believe every group would be completely separated then, right? And if so, could I install these different licenses on 1 computer? Or would MLK need a different computer for each install?

Hi

That's right. You cannot easily apply details for members on group basis. Theoretically you could enable the option to have multiple instances of a member in the database, and have the address once in each group, but management would be a headache.

If you unsubscribe a member only from Group1, then they will still receive Group2 newsletters if you belong to it.

Hello Nigel,

So what you are saying is, that the option I need, isn't there. In both cases you say: 'If an address already exists its details are updated with those in the import file'. But I would think this process should be separated, per group. If someone is a member of 2 different groups, the member details should be able to differ. E.g. if this member wishes to use another emailaddress for the newsletters send for group1, this member shouldn't get the newsletter send for group2 at that updated emailaddress as well. All member details should be strictly separated per group, in my opinion.

And what about unsubscribing? If a member wishes to unsubscribe for group1, will this member still be recieving the newsletters from group2?

Please let me know what you think.

Hi

When importing you have two options:

IMPORT

Any new addresses in the import file are added to the database. If an address already exists its details are updated with those in the import file

UPDATE

Any new addresses in the import file are ignored. If an address already exists its details are updated with those in the import file
