Posted - Jul 27 2011 : 15:46:57 Anyone have ideas?
I've used MLK for several years porting from pc to pc. Till recently it worked fine on Win7 not it starts but I can't modify its actions, get tells me to ensure adequate disk space (have 100g+) and ensure folder is write enabled, it is!
Thanks

Posted - Oct 24 2011 : 19:23:43 Just to let you know, I think all is working. Had a few more files fail but just deleted them as they were flagged as errors on exit. Few restarts and it seems clean. Doing first send of subscribers tomorrow, about 3000, hoping all goes well.
Thanks for you assstance!

Posted - Oct 04 2011 : 14:07:10 Hi Bill
You should be able to delete mlk_info.ddt while MLK IS running and it will be recreated without any ownership issues.

Posted - Oct 04 2011 : 06:35:38 So I have followed that, taken permission and opened the orginal db, it works, mostly. I am able to complete the various settings plus it found the subscribe requests and processed them ok.
When I exit mlk there is an error message:
Can not create file mlk_info.ddt. Access denied.
It has an ok button, i click and the program exits. I can restart and all appears ok except that exit msg.

Posted - Oct 03 2011 : 04:53:29 Yes!, renamed both and followed new db setup. Appears to work ok. How do I recover not just the list (which I have backed up) but the history, option settings etc?

Posted - Oct 01 2011 : 12:01:49 Hi Bill
Sorry in re-reading the whole thread I see that i have repeated a number of my requests (as this discussion has taken place over a number of weeks).
Let's go back to testing if it is ownership issue:
1. Close MLK 2. Rename the folder, c\users\it\appdata\local\xequte\maillistking\ 3. Rename the folder, c:\email\maillistking\midirname\ 4. Run MLK and create a new database when it prompts you
Does that close correctly?

Posted - Oct 01 2011 : 05:41:28 ChkDsk was run, no errors reported. All other applications run without a problem as mentioned in an earlier post.
I just disabled Avast and tried MLK, again no change from previous post.
??

Posted - Oct 01 2011 : 02:52:25 Hi Bill
The problem has simply moved to the another save file.
Did you try running ChkDsk? Are any other applications having problems on your system?
The only other thing i can think of is anti-virus software acting oddly, so please try disabling it and testing.

Posted - Sep 30 2011 : 05:39:04 Another issue that appears when I exit the program. On exit from file menu:
Same warning msg eg disk space and write rights then OK button, I click it and another error msg:
"An error was encountered while saving your database. Cannot create file. c:\email\maillistking\midirname\mlk_info.ddt. Access is denied" OK button, I click it and MLK quits.

Posted - Sep 30 2011 : 05:13:56 Renamed it, while problems not resolved, they are changed, for example:
Now when i click "options" the warning msg is: "An error was encountered saving your data files. Check that you have sufficient disk space and the application is run from a write enable directory.
I have lots of disk and specifically enabled read/write on earlier attempts.
Also: I can edit a group putting comment in it now, that's fixed. I cannot edit email processing, it says outlook folders do not exist - this is no change. I cannot edit subscribe message - no change
I see it has created a new gridslayout file, much smaller than old one

Posted - Sep 27 2011 : 14:25:39 Hmmm, that is very odd. Have you tried running ChkDsk /R on that drive? (though usually disk corruption would not give this error)
What happens if you try to rename gridlayouts.dtt to gridlayouts.bad? Does the error then move to another file?

Posted - Sep 27 2011 : 10:34:11 I always log on this pc as admin, but tried your suggestion anyway, with no luck. FYI, I use Outloot/Office 2007, the Adobe Photoshop CS5 suite and numerous other less popular programs like skype, magicjack, Expression Web 4 etc and none have a problem.
Any ideas?

That's odd. Try right-clicking the shortcut and choosing "Run as Administrator".

Posted - Sep 25 2011 : 21:15:45 Thanks Nigel, Just getting back to this problem:
FYI My PC is Win 7 SP1. Problem began after the upd from 8.6 to 10
I have verified the HD and run the db repair utility you suggested - both checkout fine
When I start MLK, the db opens and accounts are there. But, any type of edit, say clicking Options has a warning box: "Error was encountered saving your data file. Check that you have sufficient disk space and the application is run from a write enabled directory" Then the normal options window opens but ...
Just about anywhere i click, say edit groups, i get this msg" "Can not create file: c\users\it\appdata\local\xequte\maillistking\gridlayouts.dtt Access is denied.
I've checked rights, user and admin, applied full control to the folder and even the file, no luck. BTW, once i get this message I can not exit, the only way to quite is to end the prog via task mgr.
Any ideas?

Posted - Jul 28 2011 : 02:12:43 Hi Bill
Firstly, please right-click that drive in Windows Explorer and click "Properties" Under the Tools tab choose "Check Now" (including the option to scan for bad sectors.
Then try repairing the database:
1. Close MailList King 2. Download the Database Utility from:
MLK V10: http://www.xequte.com/download/dbsys426.exe Older MLK: http://www.xequte.com/download/dbsys330.exe
3. Install and Run it. 4. Select Utilities > Repair 5. Click Select and browse to your database folder (search your hard disk for the file mlk_main.dat to locate your database folder) 6. Your database files will be displayed in the box below. Hold down the Ctrl key and select each file in turn (but NOT any file named mlk_send_task...) 7. Click Open to repair all of your files
And if you are still having problems please give me the exact wording of the message error or, even better, a screenshot.
