Hi, Nigel,

is it possible - or is implemented in v10 - or will be in future -
to have more than just 2 options for conditional text?

Background: In German language you have more than 2 possibilites to address the recipient of your email:
A friend you will address by "Lieber" or "Liebe" (=Dear), depending on the gender. Other persons you will address "Sehr geehrte Frau" or "Sehr geehrter Herr" (translated word-by-word something like "Very honoured Lady/Sir"). If you address persons whose names are unknown, you would write "Sehr geehrten Damen und Herren" (Very hon. Ladies and Sirs) Makes 5 options.

Well, I could type in a custom field the complete sentence. But thatīs time consuming and most probably (I donīt know the database structure /length of the fields) would increase the database size. It would be better to have some shortcuts or codes (SgF, SgH, SgDH, Ff (FriendFemale), Fm (Friend male) ) which are then "translated" by the conditional text.
A combination of different fields would be also valuable: The above mentioned information is partly included in the field gender - thus a combination would make sense: if gender = f and addr = p (for personal contact) then "Liebe " & FirstName elseif gender = m and addr = o (=official contact)) then "Sehr geehrter Herr " & Lastname.

Kind regards
Yango

Hi Yango

It is on the to-do list but it will increase the complexity of conditional text use and thus the likelihood of error.

I think a safer solution is to create a custom field that includes either the salutation to use for each member, or a code such as:

%CONDITION:SalutationType=1%Dear Sir%CONDITION:END%
%CONDITION:SalutationType=2%Dear Madam%CONDITION:END%
%CONDITION:SalutationType=NOTHING%Dear Sir or Madam%CONDITION:END%

(I've put them on separate lines here for readability but when sending they would all follow each other so you don't get odd spacing).

Setting the field would be fairly simple. You would filter the list by sex and/or other relevant fields, then select Ctrl+A and use Edit > Set Field of Members to specify the value.
