Posted - Nov 24 2009 : 22:30:59 Nigel I'm trying to send out a (one) welcome message to new members when the join to ack they joined and and remind them to add our domain to their email white list.
If I use an Ack message they receive a separate email message for each group they joining. If they join 5 groups, they receive 5 emails.
Is there a way I can configure MLK to send only 1 email reguardless of the number of groups they join?
From the docs you make it sounds like I should be using Welcome messages. But it looks like one message would be sent per group membership instead of one message no mater how many groups they join.
Got the same question for unsubscribing. When someone unsubscribes from one or more lists is there a way to send just one message?
Thanks Douggg |

Posted - Nov 26 2009 : 06:02:21 Hi Doug
If you have a group named something like "Multiple_Groups" (can't be named "ALL" which is a reserved word) and have a welcome message then they would only get one message when they joined, but i'm not sure if that's what you mean...
If a member is subscribed to multiple groups and they UNSUBSCRIBE ALL then they will only get one acknowledgement message.

Posted - Nov 25 2009 : 12:23:44 I see where you are going, but have a slightly different approach. Tell me if you think this would work. All subscription are using RAC. (Not using forms.)
What if I make everyone a member of a group (called all) And group all is configured to send out a Welcome message? Or should it be Ack? If someone joins one group they will really be joining 2 or more. The ALL plus the one/ones nes they intended to join. Would that work?
Wait a sec, it has to be a Welcome for ALL group only right? If it were an ACK message they would receive an ACK for ALL and all of the other groups they joined. Did I get that right?
As for unsubscribing if they were members of 20 groups they would if Unsubscribe ACK was checked they would receive 20 message. Did I get that right? Or none, if left unchecked? There is no way to send one unsubscribe message unless they were only on one list.
What if I script it so the RAC command unsubscribe from all lists execpt for one like the ALL list? Oh wait, they would get an unsubscribe from those unsubscriptions right? Wait what if I included slinet for all buy one? Then send an unsubscribe RAC without silent for the last group. Think that would work? And I guess I could do the same for subscribing?
Oh wait, then there's the issue if someone is a member I can't RAC them to more groups. (Another thread.)
See where I'm going with this? Think it would work?

Posted - Nov 25 2009 : 07:00:29 Hi Doug
There is no way around this at present and I can't see a good way to change that because, by nature, each group should send a welcome message for that group.
It could probably only be done by allowing the "All other groups" welcome message to skip if we are already sending it (i.e. you don't assign welcome messages for specific groups, only use the catch-all welcome message).
