Hi all

I've just bought Mail List King and I could do with some advice. My email sending needs are rather ad-hoc (I send on behalf of my clients - can go months with no requirement at all, and then need to send to multiple lists (some as small as 250, some as large as 50,000) in the same month.)

I am having a few problems sending thru the internal server. Sending thru my ISP (optus) is out, so looked into AuthSMTP. But because of my rather ad-hoc needs, I don't believe they can help me. Does anyone know of another reputable company that might?

Hi Marion

Yes, that is correct. In the current official release the "Failed Delivery" display in the "View Recipients" dialog does not report on non-mailing list members.

However in v8.60 (which will be out later in the week) even ad hoc addresses are supported.

I certainly will report back re TZO when we've built a bit on mileage together. Have emailed Colin - not expecting a reply before tomorrow morning as it's Sunday in the US.

I think I understand re my delivery problem (thanks for pointing me to the relevant spot to look) - the address was a dummy one I loaded into the message manually. The delivery failure thing looks thru the LIST ADDRESSES to remove, not the TASKS. I was looking at the relevant task expecting that the addie I sent to would revert from "sent" to "delivery failed", but that only works if it's actually loaded as a list member. Do I have this right?

Hi Marion

Thanks for your feedback regarding TZO. Once you have used them for a month or two, please do report on this forum how you have found them for the benefit of other users.

Sending via TZO will certainly avoid using the SMTP server of your ISP and so will almost certainly prevent you from getting into any trouble with them. If your reply address is on their POP server, then they may see a lot of bounce reports going to your mail (POP) account, but I have never heard of an ISP raising issue with that.

Bounce reports should either go to the reply address or the "Return-Path" if it is specified. You would need to confirm with TZO why you are not seeing the messages come back to you.

Regarding your problem report, are you saying that when you display the recipients for the sending task and choose the "Undeliverables" display mode that the failure is not shown? What does it say under View > History and Errors, History tab with regard to the processing of that message?

Further to this: have tested with a message to an email address I know to be wrong. Bounces back to the "reply" address when sent through outlook, but not when sent through TZO. Is this something I need to talk to them about, or is there something extra/different to set when using an SMTP server?

BTW, the bounce-back had the subject line "Delivery report". When I processed it, the task did not update to show the failed delivery, even though I have the program set to automatically deal with delivery failures, and Delivery Report is in the list.

Happy days!! Just had a conversation with Colin from TZO (charming chap) and it appears that we might have a solution.

A couple of "newbie" questions:

when sending thru an external SMTP like TZO, I am in no way involving my ISP (apart from, of course, being connected to the Net), correct? It's just that my ISP will cut me off at the knees if I send "too many" (in their arbitrary opinion) emails. (Anyone else on a business fusion plan with Optus?)

where do bounces go? Do they come back thru TZO to the email addie I have registered with them? Or is there something I need to set?

Thanks heaps for your help in getting me started.

Thanks - it appears from their website that they're set up much the same as AuthSMTP. I've sent them an email though (nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say) so will see what they come back with.
