Hi...

My ISP blocks port 25 and therefore I cannot use your smtp server. It has been recommended to me by my web hosting service that you set up an smtp server uses either port 26 or 587. Is this possible? Would it solve the problem with blocking port 25?

Thanks for your help...

Hi Nigel...

Thank you very much for your help. I have subscribed to AuthSMTP and it is working great (I have sent out 2 sample mailings with no problems). I will be purchasing your program within the next day or two.

Regards...

Hi Wawa

If you have Outlook 2007 then you can have MLK send via Outlook and it can automatically use a specific mail account (select it in MLK under View > Options, Sending, Settings).

Sending via Outlook will definitely make your mail look less like Spam than using an Internal server, however you can't use an Internal server at all (because port 25 is blocked) so that is moot.

AuthSMTP is not an internal server (i.e. one on your computer) it is a mail server, so in MLK select Vew > Options, Sending, Select and choose the SMTP option (not the Internal Server option). Then specify the AuthSMTP server details you were supplied when you signed up with their service (including using their alternative SMTP port that is not 25).

Nigel, I really appeciate your fast responses to my questions.

It's much clearer now, but I am still a LITTLE confused...

First of all, I have Outlook 2007. Would there be less chance of my emails getting picked up as spam if I used Outlook than if I used the internal server?

Secondly, if I used the internal server, in the setup, do I put the AuthSMTP server name in the section that says "Identify server as." Any other settings changes that I would need?

Thanks again, you've been great!

Hi Wawa

Unless you have Outlook 2007 it is probably easiest to use the SMTP sending option in MLK (so you don't need to manually change the default Outlook account when you send).

It would totally avoid your ISP's mail servers and thus their sending limits.

Thanks Nigel...

I'm still a little confused. If I used AuthSMTP, would I then send the emailings through Outlook, changing the smtp settings to the AuthSMTP settings (as opposed to the other options of sending via my isp's smtp or the internal MLK server).

Also, does using AuthSMTP totally avoid my isp and any limits that it puts on the number of mailings (ie 500/hour)

Thanks again...

Hi

You should sign up with an SMTP service such as AuthSMTP or TZO.com
