You are probably lacking a valid MP3 codec, so you will need to download one to hear sound when previewing the slideshow (NOTE: The codec is not required to burn the slideshow to disk. It is only used when previewing).
You can get the codec free by downloading the 32bit installer (not the 64bit one, regardless of your system) from:
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/download.php
