Posted - Aug 20 2009 : 07:54:47 Please help! My photos are all saved on an external hard drive. When I opened up Pixplay just now, most of my photos loaded up then I got a message about corrupt files on my external drive. What I'm hoping is that Pixplay will have saved copies of my images. If this is the case, where will I find the copies? Before I do anything with my external drive, I'd like to see if I can find my photos elsewhere? At times like this, I wished I had saved my photos in triplicate just to be sure I don't lose anything! |

Posted - Aug 26 2009 : 01:26:29 Hi Liz
It would be odd for you to have project images in the "Documents and Setting" folder you mention, that is intended for program configuration data.
Project files should be stored in a folder of the project's name in the same folder where you have saved the project file (which by default is "C:\My Documents\DVD PixPlay Projects" or whatever the equivalent documents folder is on your system).
You should be able to open the folder by selecting View > Options, Folders, and clicking "View Files of Project".
Since v5 was released, by default, PixPlay will put a copy of all your project images in that folder. However that was not the default in v4 so for an old project you probably won't see many images.

Posted - Aug 25 2009 : 11:28:28 Hi, I eventually found the folder where Pixplay saves things. It's not the place where Pixplay stores temp files so I'm not sure if it's the right folder. My latest project has over 500 pics but this file only has a dozen or so listed. The path to this file is documents and settings/liz/local settings/application data/xequte/dvdpixplay. If I hold my mouse over the images - most of them refer to my external hard drive and then odd ones refer to the above folder. Can you explain what is happening here? Thankfully, my external hard drive seems to be working again(touch wood!) after a rest but I am interested to find out for future reference where the copies of the images go to. Regards Liz |

Any images added to that project under v5, and possibly those added under v4 will still be in the project folder. You can check this by hovering over the thumbnail in the main window and seeing what folder it is looking for the image, or by selecting View > Options, Folders, and clicking "View Files of Project"

Posted - Aug 21 2009 : 02:31:46 Hi, The project is not particularly old - I was definitely on v.4 when I started it. The box is ticked to save images. Regards Liz |

Hard drives fail relatively often so you should always keep at least two copies of everything important on your computer. However a "corrupt files" error probably is not fatal and you should be able to retrieve most of your files.
Whether PixPlay also has a copy depends on two things:
1. How old is your project (i.e. were the images added to the project with v4 or older)?
2. Under View > Options, Folders, is the "Photos" box checked for "Save files with project"?
