Posted - Jul 09 2009 : 14:23:58 Hi Nigel,
I'm having a couple problems with v4.10 that I never had with a previous v3.0x.
The first problem concerns burning a slideshow to the PAL format. I burned the identical slideshow that was done on NTSC format to the PAL format but some of the titles are either missing from some frames or instead of the title being in 2 lines (as it was with NTSC) some are now in one line.
I never had this problem with v3.0x so what should I do to get the PAL version to be identical to the NTSC version?
Would v5.0 solve this problem?
Another problem is that I upgraded to v4.10 on Jan 29th 2009, but your cut off for a free upgrade is Feb 1st. The second issue is that only for one frame in a slideshow when I burn it to a DVD & playback on the computer there is in the top right corner in yellow the following (in small text which I did not put there) "OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA"
This happens only on one frame out of 200 frames but doesn't appear when DVD is played on a DVD player with TV.(It only shows up when played on the computer.)Any idea why this happens?
Regards, Bill.

Posted - Jul 23 2009 : 13:52:14 Hi Bill
If it is set to "Custom text for each frame" then that means you specify the text for your frames at the bottom right of the main window or under Frames > Frame Properties.
Because DVD PixPlay will automatically use any embedded descriptions as its description this is why it is showing up.
Either change the "Frame Caption" mode to "None" (for the project) or remove the description from that frame by selecting it and deleting the displayed text (using the method in the first paragraph).

Posted - Jul 23 2009 : 09:50:30 Hi Nigel, When I go into Edit > Slideshow Properties, Frame Captions my setting for "Display caption over frames" box is:"Custom text for each frame". For Options boxes (a:"Hide file extention" & b: "Display date in long format")none of these boxes are ticked. I do not see any box or setting to "enable frame captions".Is this setting supposed to be on v5.01? Regards, Bill. |

Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 19:30:05 Hi Bill
I have analyzed the photo you sent me that you reported shows text in the top right corner.
It contains an embedded (IPTC) description. This may be displayed in PixPlay if you have enabled frame captions. Go into Edit > Slideshow Properties, Frame Captions, what is your setting?

Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 18:59:39 Hi Bill
Yes, because of the different frame size, DVD PixPlay will automatically resize and reposition your text within the frame.
Note, that this should not cause any text to be cut off, so if you are seeing that thenplease send me a before and after screen shot. (To create a screenshot display the program with the problem visible then select PrintScreen (or PrtScr) on the top of your keyboard. Using Microsoft Word or an image editor such as Paint, select Paste. Save the file, if possible as a JPEG if you are using an image editor and send it to us)

Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 13:22:43 BILL "When I go to "Edit Text" in PAL mode the frame & text looks different to when its in the NTSC mode"
This occurs because they are different. See below for the reason:
NTSC
NTSC stands for National Television System Committee. NTSC is a color TV standard developed in the United States in 1953 by National Television System Committee. NTSC is used in most of the American continent countries and in various Asian countries. Rest of the world uses either some variety of PAL or SECAM standards. NTSC runs on 525 lines/frame and it's vertical frequency is 60Hz. NTSC's framerate is 29,97 frames/sec.
PAL
PAL, was introduced in the early 1960's in Europe , stands for Phase Alternating Line. It has better resolution than in NTSC, having 625 lines/frame, but the framerate is slightly lower, being 25 frames/sec. PAL is used in most of the western European countries (except France , where SECAM is used instead), Australia , some countries of Africa , some countries of South America and in some Asian countries.

Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 10:37:54 Hi Nigel, I got the upgrade to v5.01 & still seem to have the text display problem when going from NTSC to PAL with an identical slide show. When I go to "Burn Disc" & select PAL format & then go to Frame > Frame Properties text looks OK ....BUT as soon as I go to "Edit Text" (for some frames: about 10 out of 200)the text position for these frames change from the position in the NTSC format slideshow. In other words when I go to "Edit Text" in PAL mode the frame & text looks different to when its in the NTSC mode (size of frame is much smaller in PAL mode). Why are'nt they the same size etc in both modes? Is there anything I can do to "equalize" things or do I have to change all "affected" frames individually? I note that you say that all PAL DVD players will show DVD's burned in the NTSC format ....so there is no advantage to burn in PAL format when sending a slide show to England. Will the slideshow look identical there whether burned in either PAL or NTSC format? Hope I've explained the problem properly. Looking forward to your comments. Regards, Bill.

Posted - Jul 15 2009 : 09:53:59 Hi Nigel, Thanks for your reply.Regarding the strange text ...... no it does'nt show up when I click Frame > View Frame. It does'nt show up either when I click Frame > Edit Text of Frame or when I click the preview button to do a preview of the slideshow ..... it only shows up when I burn to DVD & playback on the computer.(It does'nt show up when I play the same disc on TV.) Might be v5.0 will solve this problem too.
How can I get in touch with Jenny so I can ask her nicely if I will be able to get the upgrade to v5.0 ? Please send an e-mail address for her. Regards, Bill. |

Posted - Jul 13 2009 : 02:35:54 Hi Bill
Please try it with v5.0. You are close enough to the cut-off that you will get a free upgrade if you ask Jenny [nicely] ;-)
Regarding the image with the strange text, if you click Frame > View Frame does it show there?
