I'm doing a slideshow of 336 pictures + 8 songs for my son's 6th grade graduation next week. I need to burn 70 CD's & keep getting the following error message:

"An unexpected write error occurred while burning your VCD:

CStarBurn_ScsiTransportSPTI::ExecuteCDB(): Command failed "

I'm using the DVD PixPlay v 4.10 with the following settings

Step 1 - VCD format
Step 2 - TV format: Standard (NTSC)
Output quality: Highest
Step 3 - Burn directly to CD/DVD
Advance - Session at once (as recommended by the program everytime error occurred)
Speed - 24x
Use optimum power calibration

I got the same error on 7 CD's and everytime it says to change to "session at once", but the error continues. It's not consecutive: I'll burn 2-3 cd's w/o any problems, then I'll get the error message. However, the last 4 cd's in a row that I tried burning, I got the same error message. I've changed from "track at once" to "session at once" & still keep getting an error. Please advise
ASAP, as time is of the essance. I've sent an e-mail to support, but can't wait any longer for an answer. I need to have these done ASAP! I've also tried saving the project to a file, then burning w/ Sonic software, but it won't play. I chose this software because it looked simple enough to make a slideshow, however, now that I need it the most, it's not working. Please help!

Well, I was able to finish burning the rest of my CD's on time! Thanks Jim & Nigel for your suggestions! The ones I burned w/o any problems were Staples brand (very inexpensive) When I started having problems, I switched to Sony & HP, but didn't make a difference. I was burning them at 24x w/o any problems, so I switched to 16x to see if that helped...nothing. I took it all the way down to 1x, like Nigel suggested & it worked. Go figure! I think I'm done burning for a while. Thanks again for your help.

Hi

If it works fine, then fails, then that would tend to indicate a bad disk. But the number of failures you are reporting is too high to make me think it just the odd bad disk in a batch.

Are these quality brand-name disks? Does changing the type make any difference?

Have you tried a really slow burning speed such as 1x?

JIM,

my DVD PLAYER "does" play VCD. I have 51 CD's I burned using DVD PixPlay & they ALL play on my DVD PLAYER. The one I burned using SONIC software doesn't. I followed all steps, then when it says "copy slideshow directly to CD" I change it to save to File. It gets save as a videoclip that will play only on the computer. Also, you mentioned the computer being unable to burn 70 copies at once because it runs out of memory & freezes. I'm doing one at a time. When one is done, I hit previous, put another cd in & then hit finish. I burned all 50 like this, but not all in 1 day. I've been doing maybe 4-5 a day. I've tried closing the program & restarting my computer, but still I get the same error. Should I erase my project & start all over? Or should I make another one, maybe switching the order of the photos? Don't have much time for that, but at this point, I'll try anything. Thanks!

Since you "tried using my own software & the CD will play on the computer but not on my DVD so it does me no good." The answer would appear to be finding a DVD PLAYER that plays VCD format.

Try using the following link:

Since most homes have a computer I would recommend you use the PC FORMAT to burn, this would give you the best chance for everyone to see your project.

Also if you are trying to make 70 copies of a VCD disc on your computer at once--it would almost be IMPOSSIBLE. The computer is more likely freezing up due to lack of memory and is unable to burn the disc--that is the reason for the occassionaly bad burn.

GOOD LUCK ! ! ! !

Well, I'm up to 15 ruinned CD's now. I've tried everything I could think of (changed burning mode & speed), including going back to my old version of DVD PixPlay & nothing works. I still get the same message, even after 65% of the CD was burned. I tried using my own software & the CD will play on the computer but not on my DVD so it does me no good. I'm only 4 days away from my dedline & other than Jim Dalton, who responded right away (thank you Jim!) I've received no response from this forum or technical support. I'm very disappointed & frustrated at the lack of help for this product. Now, my only choices are: tell the teacher sorry no slideshow for the kids & throw away 50 CD's or give them to 50 kids & the other 20 go home empty handed. Don't think either one of those options will work here.

The Cd's I'm using are CD-R 1x-52x compatible. Since I've already burned almost 50 without any problems, can't imagine being the cd's. Just want to make sure I'm using the correct settings. I don't want to keep wasting cd's and I need to get this done fast.

Thanks!

CELLOBABY

CStarBurn_ScsiTransportSPTI:ExecuteCDB():Command failed

This error occurs because it is impossible to burn the disk.

Make sure that your DVD/CD-Writer can write on the inserted media. For example, you can't write to a DVD on a CD-Writer. You cannot write to an 8X DVD if your DVD-Writer supports only 4X.
Since you are using 24x speed I assume you have a CD writer so make sure your media is a CD and correct for that speed.
