I have a DVD with videos on it that was used to project on a background screen while a chorus sang accompanying music. The format on the dvd is IFO. How do I convert it to a format so that I can put the video and a cd of the choral music on a dvd (or cd)

To burn a VOB file to a DVD±R disc, one needs other standard DVD-Video files as well, including IFO and BUP files. The burning is/can be done with software such as Nero, Roxio Toast or ImgBurn.

MPlayer, VLC media player, Media Player Classic and more platform-specific players play VOB files.

Any suggestions on a DVD ripper - the ones I've tried don't create an MP3 file that Pixplay will work with

Hi

PixPlay can't read VOB files. You would need to use a DVD ripper to convert them to an MPEG file.

When I try to add VOB files to Pixplay, it does not recognize them.

IFO stands for InFOrmation. IFO files don't contain any video or audio. They're just instructions on how to play the contents of the VOB files on a DVD. If you don't have VOB files there's nothing to play or convert. You said you have a DVD so you must have 1 or more VOBs. Those files need to be on the disc as well. Use Nero to burn to a new cd or DVD.

Start your burning software and create a new data disk layout
Insert a blank DVD and run your Burning software
Choose the "DVD-Video Files" option
Click the "Add..."
Browse to the folder
Select the two folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and click OK Start burning
Note: If your Burning software does not offer a "DVD-Video Files" option you can just burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a DVD, however this will be less compatible than a correctly burned disk
