One of my customer is asking me a MailList King related question and I can't find the answer, so I hope someone here will be able to help.
She told me that before she was able to import Outlook distribution lists as MLK groups.
And indeed, after some research, I found this old page from the Xequte website : http://www.xequte.com/maillistking/listkingpag.html
In the Key Features list, you can see :
Import and export from/to Outlook Contacts and Distribution Lists (with full support for Outlook categories)
But It doesn’t seem to work with MLK 10.52R and Outlook 2010 (where a "Distribution List" is now called a "Contact Group").
Apparently, it was working before but I can’t find how to do it anymore, based on Distribution List names only (it is working with Outlook Categories but the 'Contact Group' category is not automatically applied to its contacts/members).
Anyone knows about this or has a clue that could point me in the right direction ?
Thanks ! |

Hi Mat
So is the category applied to the Contact Group, its members or both?

Hi Nigel,
What my customer told me is that, apparently, there were no categories applied to the Contact Groups or their members (contacts). The MLK groups were only based on the Contact Groups names (Distribution Lists in previous Outlook versions).
I tried to apply a category to some Contact Groups (with the same name) but their members are imported in the 'General' group in MLK.
I checked and the members do not inherit the category of the Contact Group they're in, and manually apply one or more categories to every contact members would take a whole lot of time.
So, what I would like to know is if (and how) it is possible to update MLK Groups formerly created by importing Distribution Lists (without categories for every contact members) in MLK 10 with Outlook 2010.
Thank you for your help.

Hi
At present, when importing from distribution lists, the list name is used for the group, but for the next release it will use the categories if they are specified.

Hi,
As explained in my previous posts, it's not working with MLK 10.52R and Outlook 2010 right now.
The list name is NOT used (that is exactly what we want, here) and all contacts (members of contact groups / distribution lists) are imported in the 'General' group in MailList King.
Is it possible to solve this and get back to the way it worked before, without having to apply a category to every contact in a contact group ?
Do you mean that, in the next release, the contact group category will be used even if its members are not individually associated with any Outlook category ?

Hi Mat
When importing did you use List > Add Addresses from Outlook folders
Then for the Group use "Outlook Categories"?

Exactly !
Same problem on my computer in evaluation / not activated version (tested with Office 2010 64 bits / Contacts subfolder not belonging to the default mailbox in Outlook >> I don't think it changes anything but I write it here to make sure you can reproduce the problem on your end).

Thanks Nigel,
Will you update MLK 10 as well (as it seems to me it is a regression from previous released versions) ?
