Nigel,
I have a suggestion for a future enhancement. I'm using v8.62 at work. We have a number of groups that have multiple word distinguishing names. The problem is that the double-opt-in emails that go out tend to reference the names in an ackward way. It would be better if the opt-in and other system generated mail that references the group names could substitute a more friendly name for the groups.

Hi Ian
With v9 supporting sub-grouping it should be much easier to use friendly names for your groups and still be able to navigate and locate them.
We have had a group name mapping feature on our to-do list for a long time but there has never been enough customer interest to elevate it.

We're moving to V9 here at the office - soon (hopefully). I'll give the subgrouping feature a try.

Nigel,
I was trying to figure out the practical application of group nesting. I assume that if you have several groups nested, and you select the top-level group to send a message, all members of the sub-groups will receive the message?
If this is correct, what does the groupinfo request return to the requester?

Oh boy, Ian, you're opening a can of worms there
During development we thought long and hard about how to deal with sub-groups, i.e. should sending to a group include members inall sub-sgroups? Should unsubscribing from a parent group unsubscribe the user from all subgroups?
In the end we went for a simple solution that we hoped would be easy to understand. Each group is treated as independent unit regardless of its position in a group tree, i.e. a group does not include its sub-groups.
However you will note that whenever you select a parent group in MLK it automatically selects all its children.

Hi Nigel,
As I continue to enjoy using v9.03 I have suggestions for a couple of new features for your consideration and some questions:
1. When I make changes to a record, is there a way to display the record "in situ", i.e. showing the record in its place within the master list or the Groups listing (whichever I was working on at the time)?
2. When I try to find a member and no record is found (the pop up tells me show), I would love to see a pop up asking "Do you want to add a record?"
3. I have website addresses as a custom field in all my records. It would be great if MLK can automatically hyperlink them so all I need to do to visit a website is to click on it.
4. If it turns out the record already exists when I wanted to add a new contact, a pop up shows "Are you sure you want to replace it with current details?". But I do not know what those current details are unless MLK shows me the existing record. Is it possible to add this pop up of existing data alongside the new info I am trying to add?
Thanks in advance Nigel! |

Hi
1. What situation are you referring to? When you search or edit a contact, MLK should position itself on the member in the main window.
2. Hmmm, there are many uses for the Find function, so I wouldn't want to increase confusion by providing a question that addresses only one of them.
3. There should be a way of doing that already. I'll investigate and come back tomorrow
4. I'll look at that for a future version

Thanks for your speedy reply, Nigel. My responses as follows:
1. Sorry for being a vague in this question. I shall try to clarify. My question regarded a situation when I was not working in the ALL MEMBERS window. With close to 7,000 members on my list, searching for a record takes a little longer than I'd like (with fast connections, we are used to instant delivery of internet information, aren't we?.
Typically, I would work in GROUPS mode or OTHER FILTERS to get data a little quicker. When I ctrl-F to find a record and a record exists, the window pops up, I would then work with the data before me. Once I saved the record, the window disappears and if I have to work with it again immediately (e.g. I forgot to enter something), I would have to find the record again. So rather than a question, I guess I rather have a suggestion that a step-saving way exists for me when I find/amend records.
2. Ok, I suppose I can then do a ctrl-N to add a record.
3. Thanks, I will await word from you.
4. Yes, please consider this feature. It does take a couple more steps at this time to see if the new data for a particular record should overwrite the existing record, or to cancel the new record if the new info is not new after all.

Hi, Ilma & Nigel,
strong support for #4, extended by the possibility to merge data, not only to use the one or the other record.
Had just that problem: got the information that one email-address was no longer valid. So I changed that email address to another one, not knowing that this new email was already in the MKL database. Well, in one record there were some address data, while the other record had better informations about the groups that had been assigned...
Kind regards Yango

Hi
OK, some details today from our work on v9.04.
You can now use the .LINK suffix for any personalization field and MLK will automatically convert it to an HTML link (for the body of an HTML message).
e.g.
%CustomField:WEB_PAGE.LINK% would convert to <a href="http://www.xequte.com">http://www.xequte.com<A>
%EMAIL.LINK% would convert to <a href="mailto:nigel@xequte.com">nigel@xequte.com<A>

Hi
Regarding #4 with v9.04:
If you are creating a new member and a member of that address already exists in the mailing list you will be asked if you want to update the contact with the new details.
In other words, any fields you have specified will replace those of the existing contact. If a field is blank in the "New Member" dialog then the contact will maintain the old data for that field.
