| I have set up mailto: commands in my newsletter for subscribes and unsubscribes. I have set up Outlook to move all my 'subscribes' and 'unsubscribes' to a folder called 'Mail List'. In the Options menu under Email Processing I have also selected 'Mail List', and it goes into the right folder in Outlook. So, what happens next? When I 'Check Now' in MLK it doesn't detect the subscribes and unsubcribes. Isn't the idea that MLK looks in those folders and offers an auto delete for unsubscribes, or at least allows me a simple way to delete from the All Members list? What am I missing? Currently I am looking in Outlook, memorizing the name, opening MLK and searching manually for the unsubscribers name. Thanks. |

Hi
MLK will process messages that it finds in your "Mail List" folder that have processing command in the subject line (or first few lines of the message), e.g. subscribe messages should have a subject such as "SUBSCRIBE" or one of its synonyms.
Are your messages formatted in this way?
(There are other options available, e.g. always processing every message in a certain folder as subscribes, but the above is the standard way of using MLK).

Hi Nigel - Yes I have Subscribe in the subject. I used the link icon and the mailto: function to create these codes

Hi
You have "From" and "To" in the subject so make sure they are specified under View > Options, Synonyms, "Edit Ignore Words".
It's not recommended to have spaces and dashes in group names, it makes it harder for MLK to parse (understand) the processing commands.
It would be better, for instance, to name it Sorrento_Stoneware_eNews.
Make sure you have specified this group under View > Options, Groups.

Originally I set up Subscribe and Unsubscribe folders in Outlook, but that didn't work, which is why I created Mail List. At that point I didn't have a group. My Group Options, Subscribing, Defalt Group was Default. Mail went into "Mail List" in Outlook, then was supposed to go into Default in MLK. Ya?
My Group Options, Subscribing, Defalt Group is now Sorrento_Stoneware_e-News.
Checked Ignore Words...'to' and 'from' are there (and were before).
Tried to add two more Subscribers, but didn't work again. I can see it "Processing 2 of 2", but its not putting them into the MLK folder. In Outlook I 'Marked as Unread", and tried a few more times with the same result.
I think I'm either doing it right, or completely missing some part in the chain.
PS - Watched a couple of videos, and they're great. Would like to see more. Maybe something on this topic.

Firstly, please download v9.02. We've discovered an issue in v9.0 where in certain configurations it will not recognize an unknown group (in your case it processes the group as "Sorrento" because the option to check for group names containing spaces is not enabled).
Then you might want to go into View > Options, Groups and specify that for Unknown groups you are "Prompted for a Group". You can then change your "Sorrento" ones to "Sorrento_Stoneware_e-News" or add "Sorrento" as a new group.

Did the download and tried a few different Group names. The most efficient is to use Sorrento as default. Did Sorrento_Stoneware_e-News as default, but it just prompted for Sorrento, so there wasn't much point in that. Works now. All my emails go to Sorrento. MLK Subscribes and Unsubscribes automatically, which is what I signed up for. Really happy with it.

You are being prompted with "Sorrento" because your mailto link is:
mailto:markhem@telus.net?Subject=Subscribe%20me%to%20Sorrento%20Stoneware%20e-News
%20 is a space.
So MLK is seeing the subject as "Remove me from Sorrento Stoneware e-News"
"Subscribe" is your command word
"me" and "from" are ignore words.
"Sorrento Stoneware e-News" is your group, but as MLK is configured by default not to check for group names with spaces it sees the group name as just "Sorrento" and ignores the rest.
So (to cut to the chase) if you want the group name as Sorrento_Stoneware_e-News change your mailto link to:
mailto:markhem@telus.net?Subject=Subscribe%20me%to%20Sorrento_Stoneware_e-News

Nigel - Yes. That makes sense.
I had a subscribe attempt come to me saying they "could not find the address"... mailto:markhem@telus.net?Subject=Subscribe.to.Sorrento.Stoneware.e-News
Is that an outcome the same problem? Will the way you recommend take care of that?

MLK won't automatically process a message with the subject: "Subscribe.to.Sorrento.Stoneware.e-News"
You need to separate the words with spaces, e.g. Subscribe Sorrento_Stoneware_e-News
