I was wondering if you had any tips on the best way to back up and save all the music files I have in my Pixplay folder. I know if I ever have to do a system restore, all those files would be lost.

Would you recommend any certain type of external hard drive, and how large of a one would you need for say 100 songs? Or is there a better way of backing them up? I know there are online back up services like Carbonite, but the music is really the only thing that would be time consuming to replace on my home computer, and I think that would be costly in the long run.

I thought I would ask the question in this forum, because you would understand what I mean. Seems like every time I go to a store and try to explain what I want, I either get a wrong answer, or they don't really understand what I want to do.

Thanks!

Hi

By far the easiest and cheapest way to do it is to buy an external USB drive. Even a relatively small (by today's standards) 160GB drive would back up all of the data of most users (assuming you don't have lots of video files too).

You should also use a back up program to automatically back up all of your files every few days. Your drive may come with one or you can download something like SyncBack:

Hi Bettie
<I know if I ever have to do a system restore, all those files would be lost.>

I think that you misunderstand System Restore. A Restore would NOT affect your music files or any other files, it only affects changes to your programs and opporating system. Eg. If you have downloaded a program since your last restore point then you would lose that and would have to to reinstall it, but data files associated with it would not be lost. However a usb hard drive as Nigel suggests is a very wise move as it is always sensible to have your data stored in more than one place to protect you from unforseen disasters.

I guess I should have said "system recovery" rather than restore. I know a restore wouldn't affect those files.
Thanks
