I am trying to process 6 million addresses and get them into a mailing list so I can start sending them messages. After processing about 1 million addresses MLK slows down to an absolute crawl. I have been uninstalling it and reinstalling it and it works fine for a while, however I don't think that is addressing the basic problem. Is there some sort of maintenance I can do on MLK to keep it lean and mean and running smoothly at top speed. |

Hi
Under View > Options, Other, what are your performance settings?
What are the specs of your PC? Which actions in particular are slow?

Default settings. Checked boxes are Do not cache, limit to 500; Disable automatic searching; guess Country field; Backup to a file %DB-FOLDER%\BackUp.csv; auto backup - None
The computer is old and slow AMD 1.39 GHz chip, 1 Gb memory, 333 MHz. This will be corrected at XMAS with 3.0 GHZ Intel E8400 chip and 4 GB of 800 MHz memory.
I have been loading addresses (some corrupted) from Excel, 60,000 at a time. MLK does a great job of cleaning out the crap. Then I back up the file. It saves as Excel. I separate out the address column and save it in Notepad (text, one address per line). Then I "Add Addresses" from the backup file and Remove the addresses from the mailing list. After I do this about 15 or 16 times it just won't move anymore.
I have about 2 million more addresses to process out of 6 million. When they are all processed I intend to load my clean text lists into 6 Groups of about 1 million each. Then I plan on sending one email per day to one group of 1 million recipients. Hopefully I will sell some stuff and make this effort worthwhile. |

Hi
If you've added a million entries, and then remove them you should use File > Optimize to ensure the database is recompressed.
You might also want to go into View History and Errors and remove extraneous entries from there too.

Thanks for the tip about File> Optimize. I have tried to delete the history and it takes longer than just reloading the whole program. |
