Hi
View > Options > Folders > Clean up files ... gives three clean up options.
Is it possible to clean up image files within the project folder that are no longer used in the project?
[So far I have generated a list of project images with >File > Save project as, specifying a txt file, and then opening in Word to put in alphanumeric order, comparing this with the Windows Explorer display and deleting files not needed].
Is there a simpler way?
Regards

Hi Ray
DVD PixPlay is very conservative about deleting files because - for instance - they may have used PixPlay to retrieve them from a camera and this is the only copy. For this reason it is unlikely the Clean Up function will have carte blanche deletion rights in a project folder.
However we might add an option to have PixPlay prompt you when you delete a file from the project to remove the original.

Hi
Thank you for your reply.
I certainly would not want an option to delete the original files. As you indicate this could be very dangerous. If one ran a backup before using the images, retrieving from the backup would take time with the possibility of error. And not everybody is as paranoiac about backups as me.
When opening a project any file not found is notified. An alternative to my request might be a facility to list images in the project folder that are not used. This would at least simplify my recent task. [Much better though would be he possibility of PixPlay deleting such images FROM THE PROJECT FOLDER].
Thank you for operating such a good support system.

Hi Ray
Sorry i did not word that well. When you opted to "Remove" a file from your project if the file it represents is in your project folder (meaning it is generally a copy) then you could be prompted to delete it (if it is not in the project folder you would not be able to delete it).
It is much safer to do it at this time than later look at all the files in the project folder, report that we don't appear to be using files x, y and z and offer to delete them. They could be files from a different project (that due to a changed filename uses the same project folder), they could be images we retrieved from a camera but did not add to a project, etc.
However even prompting to delete project files at the time we remove them from a project does not cover us for the situation whereby images are retrieved from a camera to the project folder and subsequently deleted from the camera.

Hi Nigel
Sorry, but I am still not sure whether the answer is 'yes', under a certain conditions (your para 2) or 'no', because some people don't take care of their files (your para 3).
I will just wait and see.

Ray
PS is there a typo in your para 3? 'Files' for first mention of 'folders'. PPS I think your discussion forum with prompt and comprehensive input from yourself is superb. |

Hi Ray
Fixed the typo.
My answer is "Yes, probably" . We may add it as an advanced option, but I need to look at the code to confirm whether there are any potentially risky situations that i have not foreseen.
