I have several questions about Acknowledgement/Welcome Messages.

I am using MLK to send out invatations to a party. I have a web form that sends a message to MLK. I'm using MLK to send an auto reply customized ivitation.

Questions:
Q: Should I be using a Welcome Message, Acknowledgement Message/Subscribe or Automatic Message Responding?

I'm thinking Welcome Message, but as your read on tell me if there is a better way.

Q: Can I use %Field:MemberID% in the body of a message?
Q: Can %Field:MemberID% be used in body of any of the above 3 and in a Send Message?
Q: Is %Field:MemberID% unique to a user? Or user and Group?

Q: Can I send the Welcome message to people who have already joined?
Q: Or is this a one time send when people join?

Q: Is there a way to send a message based on a date(s) in the future?
Say the party is December 24th. Can I send any of the message types above on say December 17th, and again on December 23rd?

Q: Is there a way to send out a test Welcome Message?
Q: Acknowledgement Message/Subscribe?
Q: Automatic Message Responding?

Q: Can a Welcome Message be sent from a Send Message?
Q: Or a Automatic Message Responding?
(Or do I have to cut and paste to do it?

Thanks,
Douggg

I've been experimenting with a Welcome message
In the message I have two custom fields, Full Name and Membership ID.

When I receive teh message, the full name is fine but for the message ID I get ".... TICKET %Field:MembershipID%."

Is this my error? Or is this varible not supported?

Is there any other way I can get a unique number?

Hi Douggg

In general, use Welcome messages if you want the member to go into your mailing list, otherwise use automatic responding messages.

Your questions:

> Can I use %Field:MemberID% in the body of a message?
> Can %Field:MemberID% be used in body of any of the above 3 and in a Send Message?

Yes, but you need to to into View>Options, Other, Advanced and enable the option to use any personalization fields in acknowledgement messages.

> Is %Field:MemberID% unique to a user? Or user and Group?

Unique to a user.

> Can I send the Welcome message to people who have already joined?
> Or is this a one time send when people join?

It is a one time thing when they join.

> Is there a way to send a message based on a date(s) in the future?
> Say the party is December 24th. Can I send any of the message
> types above on say December 17th, and again on December 23rd?

You can schedule manually created messages for a specific date but but not automatic responding messages.

> Is there a way to send out a test Welcome Message?

When you add an address using List>Add Addresses you can enable the option to send acknowledgement messages. So paste your own address to the group and with the option enabled.

> Can a Welcome Message be sent from a Send Message? Automatic Message Responding?

Sure, open the message using File>Open on the message sending toolbar and browse to your settings folder.

Thanks Nigel.

Great job is answering all my questions. In reading your reply I just thought up a solution for my unique value for a user in a group.

Use the group name (or custom filed) with the Field:MemberID.

If I were to call the group (or create a custom filed and evenyone in the group had the same value) 10

Then combine that with the Member ID something like this %Group%-%MemberID% I would get something like 10-UUID12045.

Problem solved.

I'm having an issue on this topic.

You suggest going to VIEW > OPTIONS > OTHER > ADVANCED, and then enable the option to use any personalization fields in acknowledgement messages.

I do not see this option. My personalization fields come out blank on my ack messages.

All fields have been defined and display correctly within individual records. Are they case sensitive, or something else? I can't figure it out.

It's been a long time since I did this, but I think there's a button or setting to show additional fields.

Hey Douggg,

Going to the message itself and dropping down the OPTIONS > PERSONALIZATION menu does give you the basic fields available, but there is no option there to select custom fields. That may be the problem.

Hi

You no longer need to set that option. Since v8 it is always enabled.

Are you trying to specify a custom field in a welcome message? At the time the welcome message is sent, is that field set for the member? (or is available in the web form being processed, for example).
