I am getting a send error message on my email acount: 553 domain not in list of rctphosts (#5.7.1)This will not allow me to end email.

How do I overcome this problem?

Hi Paul

Generally this occurs if you need to authorize yourself before sending to the SMTP server, typically by downloading via POP first (MLK has an option for this).

Check your ISP's FAQ or support line and let me know what you find.

This answers my previous question. Nigel asked me to report what I found.

Denial-of-Service Attacks are becoming more common for mailers. I hope my experience will help other MailKing users to recognize the problem and avoid the extensive damage that I have suffered. The short answer is to contact the ISP and ask them to reset the server. Evidently, the problem cannot be corrected by the user at the local level.

I think the best way is to copy the letter that I have sent to my ISPs. I have also linked the 9,650-word article that I have written about these issues.

Letter to cooperating ISPs:

The problem is now fixed and mailing now works properly; however, the email accounts with other ISPs are still affected. There is certainly a pattern with all this. Every time I send out media releases University of Washington downloads bots which I report to the responsible party Phyllis Wise (UW) who apparently does nothing.

The procedure each time with each ISP is this:

1. I use Eudora to download email while I watch it.

2. Email on unaffected servers downloads without a problem.

3. Email on the affected servers (in this case Infinity and Network Solutions) starts to download then locks and crashes the Internet connection.

4. Internet reconnection requires the re-installation of all routers and connections from the building input ISP source cable. In other words, I have to go through the building and unplug all routers and wireless access points then work my way back through the building reinstalling them which reopens the Internet connection.

5. Any attempt to download email a second time from the infected ISPs after reboot replicates the problem. Then, I have to go through the building again and perform the router and access point uninstall and reinstall procedure. This happens until the ISP technician opens my account on the server and clears it either by resetting or some other means which corrects the email download problem.

6. The identical procedure has been replicated and occurred at least twenty times. It cannot be repaired at the local level. I have to contact the ISP each time.

7. If I open web mail to do an end run around the problem and access my email, then UW has other bots lying in wait which I can see downloading but cannot stop. For example, one of them destroyed the back light on my notebook screen. Another, destroyed my wireless network.

8. The procedure they use is:

a. To jam Eudora download and crash the system by installing a bot on the ISP server that crashes the download.

b. On opening web mail to access the email, the waiting bots download and do extensive damage which has ranged from destroying my wireless software, vandalizing local computers, denying Internet access through port switching and crashing local routers and wireless connections. This is deliberate vandalism because they disable all restore points and backup devices before they download the bots.

c. Flooding my web sites on Network Solutions servers.

d. These are only a few examples. I have a list of bots that they have downloaded using this email method that continue to vandalize my local operating systems and caused inestimable damage to equipment, programs, and databases also wireless networks. Collateral damage by preventing publication via MailKing to subscribers runs into many thousands of dollars.

9. UW has tried for twelve years to put me out of business using these methods. I have described their modus operandi in the linked media release. I have published a review of the whole situation in the full-text report:

FBI and Interpol will be requested to investigate by National Union of Journalists (NUJ), London and by extension International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), Brussels. This will take some time because they have to hold high-level committee meetings in London first. The next meeting is scheduled for 15 June 08.

I have suggested that the ISPs should also put the matter on record with FBI and Interpol to protect themselves.
