Hi,
I have this scenario:
Several "basic" groups as a "pool" - these groups shall be kept / no removal of members. Therefore a simple "unsubscribe" is not possible. And regularly new groups are added. (These groups derive from regular small events (several per year), and each group represents such a small event). Name: small_event_01, small_event_02, ...

Now these groups are used as input for a big event (once a year; name: big_event_year2008, big_event_year2009, ...). Every big event has several groups: 01_announcement - 02_ showing interest (via web-form or email-link)- 03 booking in. Group 01_announcement has several "subgroups" 01a_specialty1, 01b_specialty2, 01c_specialty3, ... to meet the need of (slightly) different messages.
However members having several specialties may be in more than one subgroup.

For the big_event there shall be a general possibility to unsubscribe. And the members shall be "moved" from group_01a/01b/... to group 02 and from 02 to 03 if they respond accordingly. (In fact there are even some more groups.) This group moving I implemented by adding the member to the "higher" group and then remove it from the lower group through folder processing tasks. That works fine. Also the unsubscribing works.

Now the problem1: According to History/Removal the members in a "moved" group are defined as "removed" members due to the "removal task". If I now send out a new email I of course want to exclude the "real" unsubscribers in the removal list by marking the checkbox - but what will then happen with the members who are in the removal list because of the "group moving" but should get the message?

problem2: I use an email link to offer unsubscribing; I want to make it as easy as possible for unsubscribers - I canīt afford someone being angry with me because he is forced to visit my website and fill out a form... Due to the problems with the spacing between the command unsubsribe and the group, I use outlook rules to sort into different folders and then use the folder task processing of MLK. Since the members may be in 6 subgroups 01_a up to 01_f, there is the need to unsubscribe from all these subgroups. So I have to define 6 folder tasks. Since there are already numerous tasks for the "subscribing" with several webforms and for the "moving groups" - I loose control.
Proposal: possibility to define more than one group within one task - or use a wild card (* or ?).

problem 3: I send out slightly different messages to the members of the subgroups. However every member shall get only one of these different messages. I exclude the members of group_01a when sending the message to group_1b (copy members of group_01a into the exclude recipients list)then exclude members of groups 01a and 01b when sending to 01c, ... . But thatīs annoying doing it for 6 subgroups and that repeatedly for several sendings...
Proposal: easier possibility to exclude members through a selection of groups in an appropriate dialogue (exclude group list) - and the possibility to save such a setting for future use...

Sorry for the long topic.

Hi Yango

1. Hmmm, it looks folder processing tasks needs an action to move a member from one group to another. At present you would need to delete the "erroneous" removes from the Removals list before sending.

It would be easier if you allowed unsubscribe from all groups, but that would affect your "protected" groups.

2. You should be able to comma separate multiple groups there, so please check and advise.

What do you mean by the problem spacing with the unsubscribe command? You should be able to have an unsubscribe link like this:

UNSUBSCRIBE%20Group1,Group2,Group3

3. 2 ideas:

- Instead of using multiple subgroups why not use a custom field or conditional text to change the message that is sent to each recipient?

- If you send to all recipients within a certain time frame, e.g. a week, you can use the option "Do not send to recipients I have emailed in the last 7 days"

1. Both suggestions are not suitable... Implementation of "Moving" would be great for me.

2. Sorry for the bad expression. I found this topic: "Space encoding in unsubscribe messages" describing problems with some mail clients replacing the space between "unsubscribe" and "group". Has that been fixed? I didnīt try it.
Nevertheless: I use groups with readable names. However, I donīt want to inform the members through a command "unsubscribe group_01_badguy, group_02_wombat, ..." about the groups I assigned the users. So itīs better to use the outlook rules: in this way I can use a shortened group name (group_01, group_02, ...) or a pseudonym. But as described then I have to assign a lot of folder processing tasks... So again I end with my proposal 2. As you already responded positively to my topic "Folder processing tasks - multiple tasks/grouping" the new proposal would make MLK still more user-friendly.

3. Yes, the second idea is appropriate - I overlooked that. Thanks for the hint - Iīm still learning the features of MLK.

Hi Yango

For the folder processing tasks, you should be able to comma separate all of the groups the member needs to be unsubscribed from so it would only require one task, rather than six.

We will address the encoded space issue.
