HI
I have set up MLK Business, latest edition, to scan, on opening the programme, a remote mail folder for mail with unsubscribe etc in the subject line and also to process emails sent to that address as unsubscribe.
I am using thunderbird, so I have chosen this option so that I don't end up with many unsubscribe messages mixed up in my inbox (mlk can only check a non-outlook client inbox).
The messages are being seen, 'downloaded' and deleted off the remote server (even though the options say don't delete off the remote server).
However, when I check my history there is no record of those addresses being unsubscribed or blocked.
I am stuck as I processed 31 messages last night and none of them have been removed from any of the groups.
Do I have to refresh the history somehow to see the unsubscribes?
Is the history panel where I would expect to see the unsubscribes?
thanks for any help you can offer as remote unsubscribe is not working for me.

Hi Achintya
Are you sure that MLK downloaded the messages, rather than another email client. If MLK downloaded them there should be some record of them either in the History (if they were processed) or in the Errors list (if they could not be processed fully).
In your POP settings dialog, what have you specified MLK should do with messages that are not relevant?

thanks for the fast response.
I have found the list of emails in the errors list in the history panel. It is saying they could not be removed because they don't exist in the specified group. However, the subject line does use the trigger word UNSUBSCRIBE, and also the software is set up to treat addresses sent to this address as unsubscribes.
It seems the software is looking for other trigger words, such as the name of a group, or ALL GROUPS in the subject line, or body text?
But the instructions don't tell me I have to use the name of a group or all groups to get the unsubscribe to work. It says that if this is left blank then the email address will be deleted from all groups anyway.
A bit confused as the emails are being downloaded to MLK but treated as failures?
I have told MLK to leave irrelevant messages on the server, but when MLK checks the server, it seems to remove all the addresses?

Hi Achintya
The error reports they can't be unsubscribed because they don't exist in the specified group. This means that MLK is correctly processing all of the messages as UNSUBSCRIBE requests, but because the address is not found in that group, the Unsubscribe fails.
Are the addresses in question in your database at all? E.g. in another group? What would you like MLK to do in this situation, e.g. do you want MLK to remove them from all groups?

A bit confused here because I have not specified a group at all.
I am pretty sure that these people are in the mailing groups because I used MLK to send them the newsletter they want to unsubscribe from? I guess they must be in one of 3 or 4 groups.
I have assumed that if the unsubscribe email has the words UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line or body text (which it does), or is from a specified email (which it is)- then the address would be removed from all groups?
What I would like MLK to do if the email contains the word UNSUBSCRIBE or is from this particular email, is to take that person out of all groups.
How would I set this up?
I thought I read in the options panel that this would happen if no groups was specified?
Do I have to pick groups from the list before the processing happens? But how does that happen if I set this up to occur when the software opens and I have had no chance to select a group?
thanks for your help

Hi Achintya
By default, MLK will remove a member from all groups if no group is specified. Under View>Options, Groups, what setting do you have for "When a member unsubscribes from a invalid group"
Given the error message you are getting, it sounds like MLK is trying to remove them from some group.
Under View>History and Errors, Errors tab, find the entry for one of the problematic unsubscribes. Double-click it. What group does it say they tried to unsubscribe from?
Also copy the email address, close the dialog, and the use Edit>Find Member to search for the email address. What groups does that member belong to?

that may have solved it... it was set to 'add the user to the error list' rather than 'unsubscribe from all groups' as an option. Let's see if that makes any difference.
many thanks for keeping up with me on this one.
Hopefully that will have solved the problem.

Yes, that should do it.
In the Errors dialog you can click the Reprocess button to process the ones that were not processed.
