We have an unregistered version of MLK for sometime and never had any problems with it until recently. First we had messages saying we were over our limit for the day but have since changed to a different SMTP. That appears to have solved that but we have since had trouble sending anything out on MAPI or on the new SMTP if there is a dodgy email on the list. Seeing as there is over 5000 members on one list, deleting all the dodgy emails is not feasible. Any ideas why this is happening, our server is saying it's almost certainly anti-spam measures.

As a result of this we are thinking about upgrading to a registered version so we will be able to use MLK's SMTP. Has anyone ever had trouble installing this when they have such extensive lists on the unregistered one. Do you end up installing a whole new MLK or does it simply upgrade the unregistered one with no loss of information.

If I lost the mailing lists I would be in serious trouble!

Any advice, gratefully recieved.

Hi Luke

When you purchase the registered version, you install it over the evaluation one and none of your data or settings are lost. Of course, to be safe you should always back up your data before making any system changes.

To do this run MailList King and click Ctrl+Shift+I. This will display the two important folders for MailList King (configuration and database). Copy the folders and their contents to another folder.

Your ISP appears to have a sending limit. You can use the scheduled/batch sending function to limit the speed at which you send out your messages so you stay under your ISP's limits. On the message sending toolbar click the small down button beside the "Send Message" button. Then click the Scheduled/Batch sending option.

Luke,

As an FYI, there are different types of limits that your ISP can put in place. I've run into several over the last few months.

One of them is a limit on the number of names per message (which was 100 for my ISP). MLK has options to send out in batches - so this isn't a problem.

The second limit, which is more problematic, is a total number of emails per day. In my case it was 1,000.

No matter how much I reasoned with my ISP, they wouldn't lift or alter the limits. I think the worst part was that the limits weren't published anywhere - so it was a matter of trial and error.

In the end, I had to change ISPs and get a commercial account with another company (no restrictions, static IP and no port blocking).
