http://www.xequte.com/support/pixplayfaq.html#2 DVD Format
i. Create your slideshow as normal but on Step 4 of the "Burn Disk" wizard choose the option to output the project to your hard disk ii. Choose a folder to save your project and click Finish iii. Start your burning software and create a new data disk layout iv. Browse to the folder you specified in Step 2. v. Drag the two folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS to your layout (Screenshot of this in Nero) vi. Insert a DVD and start burning
When I follow these instructions to burn a DVD using Nero, at the point of adding the Video TS file as per the screen shot quoted, I get a message that I am not going to get a disc that will run on standalone dvd machines. When I try to run the disc I get a DISC ERROR message on the standalone machine. I am failing to find the answer to this. Can anyone point me in the right direction please. Just added a DVD writer to my computer and am having lots of fun

Hi Nigel I was made very aware of the long time which has passed since I was have trouble making DVDs of my slide shows. Them the notice of the previous posting pooped into my mail box. After trying many different ways of getting dvd to run in my Philips stand alone machine I gave in and bought a Packard Bell easy 250 Hdd machine and am pleased to report that I now have no further troubles. Anyone want a rubbishy philips standalone going very cheap.

Hi Nigel The 2 folders on the disc are Video TS and Audio TS. The disc plays fine in the computer. It auto plays in Windows Media Player. Inside the Video TS folder are 5 files , namely Video_TS.BUP, VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_1.VOB, Video_TS.IFO, VTS_01_0.IFO . The folder Audio_TS has no files showing in it. However the sound track plays when the disc is run on the computer. I hope that information is meaningful to you.Perhaps I should add that DVDs made using Pinnacle Studio 9 Work ok in both computer and DVd standalone recorder,as do DVDs made using Ulead Video 8. I did originally think that my new DVD writer setup was at fault but I think I have proved that not to be the case. Cheers

Hi Bagsey
I can't see any reason that the burning should fail when it works with other products. Are you sure you are using the same disks? Same burning speed?
Have you tried going into File>Options, Advanced and changing the DVD MPEG Audio Setting?

Hi Nigel Just got your email this morning and was still in the thinking mode. ie. wondering where to go from there. I thought that there was something wrong with my log file as I found another with a different ending which was much bigger. Anyway I will try to make another DVD using a smaller slideshow a see how that logfile looks. I will copy it straight away and email it to you if the problem persists. Thanks for your advice.

Hi Bagsey
If you look at the content of the burned disk using Windows Explorer, what files and folders does it contain?

Hello Nigel:
I was wondering if there was ever a resolution of what is outlined in the very first message in the thread below. Over the weekend I finally got around to burning a project under v3.1, using Nero, and got the same message from the Nero software when I was dragging over the Video TS file. And, as the message I got said, the resulting DVD would not play on my standalone, and played very poorly on the PC. I scoured the board and found a message (which of course I cannot seem to locate right now) suggesting success by burning via Nero as a 'video compilation' (versus what is outlined in the faq below). Without my stumbling on that in this board I would not have intuitively thought to try that, but it did the trick.
I find the cutesy Nero interface offputting and ultimately confusing to mere tech mortals such as myself, so I'm wondering if this is their way of steering users toward their own photo products. Anyway, happy ending for me, but I was wondering if this remains an issue of some sort.

I was under the impression that Packard Bell Easy 250 HDD is (only) a HDD and not a writer. What did you use to burn the discs where you have been having trouble. Was it Nero or did you use something else. I ask because I have trouble sometimes and as I am approaching 74 I need nice simple instructions to get anything. Any help appreciated. Thanks Bill |

Hi Matt
Firstly, can i ask what prevents you from burning directly from DVD PixPlay?
Bill, can you please give more detail about the problems you are encountering?

Hi Bill To give you some insight into the Packard Bell machine. This has a built in 250 gig HDD.which I use to record things from the Tele when I need to. This save a lot of hassle when we go away from home as it has a massive storage capacity in hours. It will record and play a big range of other discs, eg. DVD. svcd, vcd, Xvcd, etc.etc. I now have gone back to and use DVDPixplay to burn my slide shows, which play without any trouble in this machine. Like everything in this life there is a down side, and this machine is no exception. It does NOT have Video Plus so your programs need to be set up manually using a setting up table. This I found to be a bit awkard at the start but I am getting to grips with that now. Old age creeping up didnt help.Like you I am the wrong side of 73. II believe that I should be able to record my slide shows to DVD-RW then transfer them to the HDD and sort out a recording sequence to record multi slide shows back to a DVD in order to get a number of shows with indexing on one DVD. I must confess that I haven't beaten that yet but am working on it. Another minor irritation was the fact that I did not get a GOOD manual with it so am relying on the downlosd from the PB website. This is Ok but could be more explicit. I bought mine from ebay for less than half price, it reconditioned with 6 months warranty. If you need any more info. that I can give please post back.

Thanks to everyone I am now a little clearer, regarding the P.Bell machine, the letter from JIMD helped with the PDF files, and I now see what Bagsey was meaning. It sounds a good idea, what kind of price was it Bagsey? I have a Panasonic DVD recorder but it uses DVD-RAM discs so a little bit of a set back there. Nigel. The fault seems to be in the burning using PixPlay to do this, but seems to happen intermitantly so when I get a consistant fault I WILL be writing again. It seems the UK has is share of old codgers, Bagsey. I thought the west country (Bristol) was the means that I kept my marbles, but it seems Yorkshire air helps as well. My wife is from the other side of the Penines, so perhaps it is just northern air altogether. Perhaps I could e-mail you personally (and not through the Forum) for further details. My e-mail is wtbr32494@blueyonder.co.uk if you wish. Any way sincere thanks and very best wishes Bill |

I can't contribute a proposed solution to Bagsey, but I can say that various machines seem to handle things better or worse. I have 3 standalone DVD players. 2 play the Nero-burned disks just fine. The other (a RCA) sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. So your player may be part of the issue, as you have surmised.
As for why use Nero to burn the DVD, as you asked Nigel - I can tell you why I do. I need/want menus so I can select specific segments of my slide show. Nero Vision lets me do that. I don't particularly like Nero, and I did try to use it to create the slide show rather than use DVD PixPlay. PixPlay was MUCH more user friendly, so I very quickly dropped Nero for that purpose. When you are able to upgrade PixPlay so that it supports menus, I'll most probably quit using Nero Vision totally.

Hi Nigel Thanks for your help and pointing me at that list of moans. It looks as though I will have to start saving my pension for a new standalone. The comments made in that forum fit well with the erratic behaviour of my machine. Plays svcd but not vcd plays some dvds but not others etc.etc. I suppose that it is a case of ' you cant win them all' But I still dont understand why DVDs made using ulead video Studio , and Pinnacle video studeo work but it doesnt like Pixplay, yet svcds made with Pixplay are fine????? Thanks again
