If you've forgotten your Facebook password, you can recover it by verifying your account and having Facebook send you a special code via email or text message. Here's how to get it back:
To reset your Facebook password:
Go to www.facebook.com in your web browser.
Under the “Password” box, click Forgot your password?
On the next screen, click the box next to the envelope and enter the email address, phone number, username, or full name associated with your Facebook account. Then click Search and Facebook will find your account.
Facebook will display a list of accounts whose information matches what you searched for. Click This is my account next to the account you recognize as yours.
On the next screen, you can choose how you would like Facebook to send you a code to reset your password. Facebook may send you email or text messages (if you have registered a phone number with Facebook). Click the button next to the option you want to use, then click Continue.
In this case, you have chosen to receive an email to reset your password. If so, log in to your email account and open the email with the subject “Someone has requested a new password for your Facebook account.” Write down the 6-digit code that appears there and enter it into the box highlighted on the screen below. Then click Continue.
The next screen will ask you to enter your new password and a copy of it. It must be different from any other password you have already used. Click the “New password” and “Confirm password” boxes and enter your new password in each. If you suspect someone else is using your account, please tick the box here. This will cause Facebook to close any sessions currently open on your account when your password changes. Then click Continue.
That's it! You can now use your Facebook account again with your new password! Be sure to write down your new password and keep it in a safe place so you don't forget it!
In fact, we recommend using a password manager to keep track of your passwords from now on. To learn more about what a password manager is and what you can do with it, see our article What is a password manager?
