Posted - Feb 02 2014 : 11:52:31 Nigel Once in a while when sending email this error message comes up. "You have not specific sender reply address" and then it tells us we can set it in options/sending/
When I go and look at the section options/ I assume the error is referring to "SENDING EMAIL" option. In there I look at the profile and there is a reply address email set and a name set. Still though this keeps coming up.
The problem is that when this error comes up it stops any further activity in mail list king so I come in and find out that for hours or sometimes for a day MLK has not been working as this error message has blocked any further activity.
Can you advise me:
1) How do I fix this error since there is indeed a reply address and name showing
2) How do I get MLK to ignore this type of error message and keep working. Under Advanced Sending Option I have turned off "Always show sending errors". Under SENDING SUMMARY I have it set for NEVER.
Thanks Nigel. |

Posted - Mar 06 2014 : 13:55:41 Hi Bruce
I sent the debug details the email address you use on this forum.
Unfortunately the debug log, by necessity, outputs all information. You can do a find and replace to obscure the details however (e.g. replacing all the .coms, @'s, etc).

Posted - Mar 06 2014 : 09:03:48 Hi Nigel I did not receive the debugging info but that's okay. I found how to do it in another email you previously had sent. However it looks like this will send email addresses of clients. Is that correct? Management will not allow email addresses to be sent out for privacy reasons. Can you please advise me if the debug log contains email addresses of subscribers. Thanks. |

Posted - Mar 04 2014 : 19:59:16 Hi Bruce
We have released v12.05, which makes the error non-blocking.
I will email you the debug logging information.

Posted - Mar 04 2014 : 12:53:06 Hi Nigel Run through again how I do up the test log for you. I will then send it as long as there is no privacy issues. Do you know if the test log will show the email addresses of anyone? Management won't allow that for obvious reasons. Privacy is a big issue. Thanks |

Posted - Feb 25 2014 : 12:45:40 Hi Bruce
Our main MailList King installation runs on Windows 8, so I am curious to know what changed there could be in the 8.1 update that causes such an issue. I'd like to see a before (when you are getting the error) and after (the settings/account changes you have made to fix it) for settings.ini and accounts.ini so I can investigate this.
I will make the "No sender address" error a non-blocking one for the next release.
I'm curious about the test sending issue, too. If you click "Send Test" in the account dialog, MLK should definitely show an error if it fails with whatever details are available. Please reproduce and forward your Test log file.

Posted - Feb 23 2014 : 19:31:53 I ran the program in compatibility mode all day and check it remotely this evening. No problems of any kind. Program worked flawlessly. Obviously a windows 8.1 issue. Can this be resolved and what about setting up the program to not stop working with such a popup appears. How about a timer or something where after 3 or 5 seconds the popup is gone. Also the program really needs confirmation of setting up a sending account to advise what the issue is if when testing the account it does not sent. At present it gives no error message of any kind and no indication that it did not go. If setting up an email sending account and running the test it DOES send, then a notice is seen advising that it was sent properly. That's nice but it would also be nice to know that the test FAILED and WHY.
Thanks. |

Posted - Feb 22 2014 : 22:09:22 Thanks for your comments. There are no replies at all. None. MLK is not set to send out replies to messages sent.
Since moving it to windows 7 there have been no issues. It is obviously a problem with windows 8.1. I emailed a friend who is at Microsoft. He is telling me to run the program in windows XP or 7 compatibility mode. I will be trying that next but this program should not be stopped by a simply pop-up like this. My friend at MS advised that there is no need for an email name just an email address when sending email. He was saying the code should be changed or at the least, the pop-up window should not cause the program to stop running. Meanwhile PFB is working fine at pushing the OK button on that pop-up window, but since running the program in windows 7, there is no problem anyway. Tomorrow I will check the compatibility mode. |

Posted - Feb 22 2014 : 17:19:17 I should ask how are you using MLK? I have mine on a dedicated compute in what Nigel calls RAC mode so I send commands to MLK. This was a pain when I received the error too. Only way I knew it was hung is when I didn't receive messages in my test accounts. I would then have to remote into the MLK and clear the error message and then delete the spam messages. I still don't know how these spam messages were able to make MLK hard stop like it does.
Based on the error, I'm thinking the issue has something to do with return address for the spammer as not being an authorized sender which is crashing MLK.
I tried to a couple of those messages to Nigel, but production trumped analyzing the root cause of the issue.
Again for me the fix was to clear the OOO replies that we in the queue. Remember these are the replies to the messages you sent. It's the replies that are trying to be sent out to that's causing the problems.

Posted - Feb 22 2014 : 16:51:41 Sorry - but I don't see anyway to edit a reply once it has been posted. I meant to say "how do I set MLK to ignore any error messages such as this one and keep working." In other words MLK should be working even when pop up notifications keep coming to the forefront. I installed "push the freakin" button software which keeps closing the popup window and allows MLK to keep functioning but honestly Nigel needs to fix this. This software should work even with such a notification.
On another note, Nigel also needs to add in a notification to tell the user when they are testing an account for outgoing email that the email FAILED TO SEND. It should then advise why - ie password authentication, etc., This is not in the program and really needs to be there. Right now when I test an account for sending email it basically either advises that it was sent, or no popup comes. I just figure that if there is no notification that it was sent, then it must have failed. This makes it really tough for setting up. MLK should advise whether the test email was sent or not and if not what the issue is. Hope he addresses that in another version or update. |

Posted - Feb 22 2014 : 16:48:46 Look at the bounce backs or OOO replies. Crafty email spammers are sending exploits which hung MLK for me. The symptom you have is the exact same one I was receiving. In my case there was nothing wrong with MLK or the configuration. It was a malformed email OOO replies that choked MLK. |

Posted - Feb 22 2014 : 16:46:19 It would seem that it is something with windows 8.1. This did not occur prior to the upgrade. I am installing MLK on a windows 7 machine now and will see if it reoccurs there. It only occurred after the update to windows 8.1
However there should be a way to have MLK perform pop up notifications. The software is suppose to be unattended software but now it has become pointless to use it. Our company bought 3 copies but I am the only one left using it. The other two managers have gone with web based companies. Our supervisor who had originally recommended MLK no longer has it on the list but i like the software and find it can do a lot for our customer product lines. But having to check it constantly makes it pointless to use. |

Posted - Feb 22 2014 : 16:42:33 I have none sending replied to MLK. It only send outgoing messages, period. |

Posted - Feb 22 2014 : 16:22:47 Bruce I had the same issue and found it was two subscribed account which were sending replies to MLK. I had to delete the email accounts and clear the Outbox queue.
Hope this helps you.

Posted - Feb 22 2014 : 16:04:21 Nigel This is now occurring daily making MLK pointless to use. I do not see any account.ini file in MLK directory. How can this be fixed permanently. Should I delete MLK and do a completely new install? Also how do I set MLK to ignore any error messages such as this one and keep working. Last - how can I upload an image. I see not such ability in the quick reply form. Let me know answers to all the above. Thank you. |

Posted - Feb 12 2014 : 17:14:42 Hmmm, I can't see any reason why Windows updates should affect MLK's account settings, if no other settings are affected. Next time it occurs make a copy of your accounts.ini file before and after you fix the issue. Then email me both copies for analysis.
If possible, catch the error while debug logging is enabled too, and send me your log file.

Posted - Feb 11 2014 : 22:00:49 Hi Nigel About all I can do is wait for it to appear again. It seems to happen once in a while when windows 8.1 updates. I'll see what I can figure out. I can at least delete the account and then create it again and that works for quite a while. I had turned off auto updates on Windows 8.1 for a while but tech support turned in back on. That's when the problem re-emerged. |

Posted - Feb 11 2014 : 19:15:14 Hi Bruce
Unfortunately that is a critical error, as MLK cannot even send a message if it cannot specify a reply address.
If there is some way we can reproduce the failure then please advise so we can try to resolve it.

Posted - Feb 10 2014 : 22:13:55 Also, these are not replies. There are no replies. Replies are handled outside of our MLK program. It is outgoing only. |
Bruce23 |
Posted - Feb 10 2014 : 22:09:44 No, that's not the error message. The error message relates to the "You have not specific sender reply address" and then it tells us we can set it in options/sending/ - Once I delete the account and reinstall it then works fine. There are no spam messages of any kind. This is not related to the MLK outbox and there is nothing in history. |

Posted - Feb 10 2014 : 20:55:12 I'm finding I'm getting them as replies to emails sent to members of my lists. The reply appears to be specially crafted from spammers. I'm getting the same message you are. Some force MLK to stop until an error message is cleared.
