With the nightly back-ups can you add an option to back-up the configuration file/files too?

When I first started using MLK I asked you about DR planning and you told me a copy the MLK directory contains everything. You were right as I have used a copy of the directory to create new lists on the same box after changing the directory name and then configuration settings.

MLK works so well I rarely do any work on the box it's all remote, RAC or RDP. I'm realizing I'm making slight changes to the congif files and if I loose the drive/computer they would be lost too.

In the next release can you add an option to email a back-up of the config files or (even better) config files and data?

The later would be ideal as it would make restoring very easy. (Just install MLK, restore the data with config files and then create the short-cut (batch file) to the dir with the data.

Thanks

Is there a way you could package up the entire directory and email it

Hi

When you use your automated backup program ensure it backs up the config folder as well as the database folder.

We are unlikely to add config files to our email backup for the reason mentioned above.

Got it. What about including the config files with the back-ups.

Hi Doug

The backup that is performed by email is only a very limited selection of the data, i.e. just the member list (including email addresses, postal addresses, custom fields and groups). So before we added config backup it would be logical to perform a full data backup.

Unfortunately MLK cannot easily email the database files because they are in use and thus locked in Windows. You should use a backup program (such as SyncBack SE) which can back up and send files even if they are in use (using the Windows Shadow Service)
