Posted - Sep 01 2009 : 07:48:02 No matter what email setting I use (Outlook, SMTP, MLK) my mailshots don't get sent. This is only since upgrading to 8.60
Prior to upgrade (i think I was using 8.1.1) i used SMTP option and had no problems at all.
Strange thing is that MLK is still able to send the error report to my email!!
the sending error is as follows: Error: Unable to connect to your SMTP Server: Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused.
If I send using Outlook, the test message works fine, but when i send the actual mailshot all the messages sit in the Outbox forever and don't actually get sent.
MLK mailserver sending doesn't work at all.
I'm reminded here of an important lesson. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Except, now it is broke - someone help me fix it as I have some urgent mailshots to send... |

Posted - Sep 09 2009 : 00:09:27 My only guess is that the sheer number of MLK upgrades performed on that server could have created some corruption. Its also possible that a server reboot would have fixed it, but since there's business critical tasks running on that server, I can't afford any downtime.
For now we have abandoned MLK on that server and instead installed it on an old XP machine which can be dedicated for the purpose of mailshots. Its working perfectly. So I'm happy.

Posted - Sep 03 2009 : 14:58:52 Hi Phil
I can't see any reason why MLK should use port 1858. I assume you have checked all your settings under View > Options, Sending, Settings to ensure nothing was changed in the update (it should not have).
You might also try going into View > Options, Sending, Other Sending Settings and changing the "Identify MLK as" setting?
I assume you can send to that box from Outlook? If so, compare the settings and/or use the Outlook sending option in MLK.

Posted - Sep 03 2009 : 07:30:44 Still a mystery. I ran some port monitoring software on our server, and it shows that no processes are sending to port 25, yet MLK still won't send. It does however show MLK using port 1858. What's that for? I'm going to install MLK onto a dedicated PC running XP. Hopefully that will solve the problem once and for all. |

Posted - Sep 02 2009 : 07:24:49 Hi Nigel
Done some further investigation and it seems to be a problem with our server. I have tried to use telnet to connect to our SMTP server, but that also fails. I can connect ok from any other PC on our network, but just not that server. The server has windows firewall switched off, and no other firewalls installed. So its a mystery right now. We use MLK to do mailshots from that server on a regular basis. The last mailshot was on Friday using SMTP, now a few days later it no longer works... and the only thing which I know has changed is that I upgraded MLK.
very odd. |

Posted - Sep 02 2009 : 03:31:20 Sorry Phil, I missed that.
There have been no changed to the SMTP engine between those two versions.
Please email me the log file for the sending task:
1. Run MLK and click Ctrl+Shift+I. 2. Check the box to display your database folder and click "OK" 3. Browse to the subfolder named "SendLogs" 4. In that folder your log files are named "mail_sent_*.txt" with the date of the delivery included in the name. Find the files of the relevant date and send them to me

Posted - Sep 02 2009 : 00:19:42 I already said - I was using 8.1.1 no firewall
Its on a server, and its been working perfectly right up until I installed the update. |

Posted - Sep 01 2009 : 15:30:34 Hi
What version were you using previously?
Do you have an application blocking firewall such as ZoneAlarm which may be blocking MLK now that it has changed its signature?

Posted - Sep 01 2009 : 07:58:22 Update: I now got it working via outlook, but I really need SMTP I need to send from an account tied to public folders, and Outlook will not send in that case, due to permissions. SMTP always work perfectly before |
