Hi,
I want to use some data in an access db after exporting from mlk by linking from within access to the exported file.
I use office 2003 (access 2003 with access db format 2002/2003)
problem .xls: access 2003 can´t read the xls-format written by mlk. Necessary to open in excel and write as older xls-Version (i.e. 5.0)
problem .csv: delimiters set to comma between fields, and to "" as text delimiters. Problem: Had one field in which the sender of a web form had set some parts of text in "" (typical in German language) > everything after that field in chaos / all data lost in the following fields.
Is there a possibility to change the delimiters for exporting csv? The field for setting the field delimiters is greyed out.
problem solved by exporting as .txt. Here the option is available to set various field delimiters.
Meant as help for users - took me some time to find out; no hints found in help/faq/forum.

Hi, Nigel,
I have a web form that includes some fields for free text. This webform is processed by MLK. Everything is ok.
I then export the data via file|export|export mailing list: I choose the folder, type in the file name and add the extension .csv. At this moment "Separate fields with delimiter" is set to a comma and is grey/cannot be accessed.
I open MS Access 2003 and link to that file. I have the German version of MS Access, so I´m not quite shure about the English expressions. Should be like file|external data|link to table.
An assistant is opened where I can define which fields I want to use in the database. Here I can set the delimiters for the separate fields (which is a comma). And here I can set the delimiters for the text which are double quotation marks "[text]".
The linking works without problems or error messages.
When I checked the data I observed that all recordsets were ok but one. In this recordset all was fine up to a specific field; all following fields were just empty (but had values in MLK). I then noticed that the user who had filled out the web form had marked some words within a field with quotation marks and used also a comma: [word1 "word2", word3]. These "double" quotation marks are typical in German, while in other languages they are often `single´ quotation marks...
I then removed these double quotation marks within MLK, exported again, and then everything was fine, all data were available in Access.
Access obviously recognized the quotation marks as "END OF TEXT", then of course the comma within the field was recognized as END OF FIELD... and then everything after that was shifted and could not be processed.
A solution could be to use other field delimiters and/or other text delimiters from within MLK.
In my case the export to a txt-file worked: here I can use other field delimiters (I used #) and there are obviously no specific text delimiters...
To me it seems to be an unlucky combination of several parameters (German language with the typical use of double quotation marks and a comma within a custom field). A solution could be the offer of other delimiters which are normally not used in the specific language. Like for export to a .txt-file the user should be able to choose the appropriate delimiters for a .csv-file (if possible).
