 What's the difference between web forms and RAC?

This might sound like a dumb question, but I'm not a web page designer so the answer might be a simple one.

It appears to me web forms can do a sub-set of what RAC can do. (Like adding/removing/changing group members.) But isn't that what RAC can do and more?

Q: Why use web forums and not RAC?

This has me thinking.... I have a couple of questions about web forums.

Q: Is there anything special about a web form email message? Or can I send an email (from my email program) amd format the message as web forum? (Or is there something special about a web form message?)


I'm thinking there are times when it might be easier to send a web form formated message to MLK instead of an RAC command. (I might be wrong.)


Q: It appears web form messages do not require a password, (RAC can). But requiring specific text on the subject line is more or less the samething (as long as "Allow partcial matches" is not checked), right?

Q: With RAC you can specifiy only accept messages from a specific email address or domain, can the same be done with web forms?

Hi

Yes, you some of the functions of Remote Admin Commands using web forms. Web forms are typically intended for group member usage, whereas RACs are for list administrators.

Yes, you certainly can use "web form formatted" messages to add/modify mailing list entries (I know of a number of companies that have applications that automatically send web form type messages to MLK).

There are no further security features for web form message processing (because admin commands can't be performed by web forms).
