Azithromycin 500 mg is a widely used antibiotic for treating various bacterial infections. While it is generally well-tolerated, it can cause side effects. Common side effects include gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Some people may experience headaches, dizziness, or fatigue. Rare but serious side effects can include liver problems, indicated by symptoms like jaundice or dark urine, and severe allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling.

Azithromycin can also affect heart rhythm, leading to conditions like QT prolongation, which can be serious in some cases. If you have a history of heart problems or are taking other medications that affect heart rhythm, discuss this with your healthcare provider.

Always report any severe or persistent side effects to your healthcare provider, as they may need to adjust your treatment or monitor you more closely.
