I must be losing it!!
I inserted a few video clips created as an .avi file (with a nice little avi icon where I saved them)and they worked like a charm in the preview.
I tried the same on my laptop by transferring the identical files and while they work on the finished DVD they do not show up in the preview nor is there any sound. These files show up as a Windows Player clip when I transfer them over.
So I created some more files on the laptop (which showed as the Windows Player) and transferred them to my desktop where they showed up as .avi files.
Am I missing a codec? or is it some other problem?
I am using CyberLink Power Director v6 to create these videos and saving them in both instances as .avi files but on the laptop they appear as Windows Player files.*.avi and when I search for .avi files they are there but just as a black square.
Does the fact that the desktop is Windows XP Home, laptop XP Professional have a bearing on it?

AVIcodec is a program that will analyze the video file and tell you which codecs are needed, and which ones you are missing. THEN, it will give you the link to the site where the codec is located, if you are in fact missing that particular one (click “web” button).

Windows does not include a driver for MJpeg but you can download one from:

Regarding MPEG, this is also undoubtedly a driver/codec issue as MPEG is usually supported on all windows systems. You might try installing an MPEG2 codec:

As you know, DVD PixPlay only uses Windows drivers/codecs for previewing your slideshow. You were still able to burn the slideshow even when you were /are missing the relevant codecs on your system.
