Hello,

when installing lightning to an administrator account everything works fine. But when logging into an account without administrator privileges there is no lightning on outlook available. When trying to install lightning in the non administrator account there appears the message, that i have to install with administrator privileges.

Please tell me how to make lightning work in an non administrator account.

Best greetings,

Stephan

Hi Nigel,

thank you for your help! This was the missing piece for the solution.
Now it's working as it should

For all who have the same problem, here is the solution:
1) You can install Text Lightning as Admin user or you install it with a user that have no Administrator permissions with right click setup "Run as administrator". Leave the installation directory as it is (C:\Program Files (x86)\Text Lightning).

2) At the last step don't active that you want to start Outlook.

3) Then you have to login as the user that have no Admin permissions if you installed it with the Administrator user and then add the following two registry keys.
(You can save it as *.reg files then you only have to run it)

File 1:
-------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xequte]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xequte\Text Lightning]
"Version"=""
"LastSiteVisit"=""
"EXEPath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Text Lightning\\XLightning.dll"
"EXEPath64"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Text Lightning\\XLightning64.dll"
"OutlookToolbarRegistered"="True"
"OutlookToolbarVersion"="4.0.516"

File 2:
-------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\AddIns\XLightning.coOutlookExtendingAddin]
"FriendlyName"="Text Lightning"
"Description"=""
"LoadBehavior"=dword:00000003
"CommandLineSafe"=dword:00000000

4) Now you can start Outlook and the Text Lightning is automatically added to the Add-ins and you will see the configuration wizard of Text Lightning

Thank you and keep up the good work!

Hi Michael

I'm afraid we have not tested it under that setup. It may need us to implement support for it.

Please run "RegEdit" and see if the registry entry exists for the add-in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\XLightning.coOutlookExtendingAddin

Hi Nigel,

we use Text Lightning for many years, but now i setup my users with normal user rights. Until now they worked with administrator rights.

I some new workstations with Windows 10 and now i have the problem that i can't add Text Lightning to Outlook 2010.

I tried all possibilites

I installed Text Lightnig into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Text Lightning\" with the Admin user and then i logged in as user without Admin rights.
But i can't add the Add-in Xligtning.dll in Outlook. I can choose the DLL but it don't appears in the Add-in list.
Then i also try to run the RegDLL32.bat with "Run as Administrator". Also the same.

When i install Text Lightning with the user with "Run as Administrator" and i activate "Start Outlook" at the last step Outlook will open with the Outlook wizard (it looks like that i installed a fresh Outlook). Very strange.
Then i close the wizard and start Outlook normally everything looks normal but the Add-in is also not available and i also can't add i manually

I get it only to work when i give the user Admin rights and then i install Text Lightning with it. Then the Add-in is immediately available in Outlook.

But i don't want that the user have the admin rights!

Do you can help me or do you have an idea?

Many thanks for your help!
Michael

Hi Stephan

Try going into C:\Program Files (x86)\Text Lightning\

Right-click RunDLL.bat and choose "Run as Administrator"

Does it appear in Outlook then?
